i went to my moms friends body shop about getting my antenna stub removed, and the whole car painted.. he quoted me a price and its kind of way out of my price range i was looking for, mainly cause of the body work that would need to be done to remove the stub and fix a dent that i had remaining from my accident, that was hidden behind a piece of plastic molding i didnt remove. now... my question is.... how hard would it be to remove it myself and fill the hole in, and how much/what tools would i need to make this possible? i figure if i can do the body work myself and save me 1,000$, i could just get the car painted afterwards.

$1000 O.M.G thats terribul .. I can repaint a hole car for under $200 cdn in supplies.
For the dent I would just go to a dent puller guy .. he should be able to pull it for under $100 and no need for paint if its not wrinkled.
Bondo'ing a hole might be easy, but for some ppl its not. I know I hated working with bondo for the first year I used it and to this day it can still give me troubles. They dont have to repaint the hole car to do that spot. Just a splash in where they mix the old paint with the new and blend it in.
You can give it a try , but remeber , if you want prof results , go to a prof body shop. Get a few quotes.. Im sure you can get it all done for under $400

$3000 .. well .. there might have been some miscomunation between you and this body shop .. Im thinkin that either he thinks you want the hole car repainted ( and that would be about right on the money to get a full repaint , body shop prices) or they have just politly told you .. " they are not intereseted in your buisness"

actually i said i wanted the antenna removed, hole filled in, and that spot painted, funny that when i asked for a quote from the same place when i had my problem with my door where some glue got stuck to my door, they told me 1,000 to remove a very thin strip of glue and they refused to paint *just* that spot, they *needed* to paint the whole door
