ya mine does that as well... from what i hear i could be signs of an old tranny.. but let it idle a bit if you can.. if not .. put it in drive.. hold it a sec move to reverse then back to drive.. it usually goes into gear then.. at least for me... but it only does it when its cold.. so im hearing its the tranny trying to build pressure .. and when it gets enough it goes into gear and works.. could be the fluod you have is old or needs replacing.. but as for me.. mine does the same...

thanks a lot. yeah it seems like it is now doing this since it is getting colder by me. do you think that changing the fluid would do it, and if so, how hard it would be to do so. i have all the proper equipment needed probably

Sounds like your low on fluid. There is no pressure in the trany when it's in park. When you shift to "D" or "R" the hydrolic lines fill with oil causing pressure. If there is not enough trany fluid in the trany it will take longer to pressurize up.
Also if the fluid is getting old when it gets cold out the fluid gets thicker making it take more time to pressurize the lines to make it work.
Kind if like when you turn on the water hose to wash the car, at first the hose does not push out much water, but after the flow reaches the end of the hose it flows out nice.

I think its just a 2.4 problem. I have the same thing that happens to me at times on my car, and i have a 5 speed. you step on the gas and the car just stumbles for a bit then its fine. It seems to be a common problem with the engine.

Thanks for the help, i will be getting an appointment soon, but all the shops i see in my area say that a filter is extra. does this mean anything and the change will cost about 28 dollars, is that high or low. and is there anything i should look for in their service
I was wondering if the reason my car shifts hard is because of low fluid. I kind of like this, so will the fliud change get rid of this. Either way i dont care as long as it stops what its doing.

Changing the screen requires they remove the trany pan. ( more labor)
Yes, changing the fluids and having the screen changed should fix the low problem. If they fill it up like they should.
?? do you have one of those trany's you can't check the level on, or do you just not know where to look and how to do it.
I ask as some one on hear can tell you how and you would save quite a bit of money today and in the fucture.
Mostly just drive the car for a few to get it warmed up. with the car on LEVEL ground and in "P" or "N" AND the motor running. Pull the dip stick and see where the fluid stopes. It says right on the stick were full and add is.
Good luck.

$30 is a good price. I know the super lube place wants $70 to change it on my car
