Ok, the 93 GA with the 3.3 is almost ready for the road. I have 213.00 into it (car was free)(does not include tires, which are needed) and drove it around the back roads for 67 miles, so far so good. This next problem is more for comfort that drivability. The A/C does not work, turn on the A/C and the engine bogs just for a half a second, bo no cold air. The clutch on the compressor does not move, but the pully spins free. Could this happen because of low (or no) R-12 in the system? I was thinking that the system would not want to engage with no freon in it to preserve the compressor. Am I on the right track? If so, where is the low side valve, I have a valve right above the evaporator but I do not know if this is high or low. Sorry for running long.

Thanx!

Correct, if the system is low on freon, the compressor will not run. Sorry though, I can't help you on the low side valve...

If the system is low/out of coolant, how would I get it in the system? I know to fill/charge a system you need the A/C to be on (compressor running) so, if the compressor doesnt run because of low/no coolant how would I force some in, so the system recognizes that there is coolant in there, therefore the compressor kicks in?

Thanx!

in most cases yes it should turn on. If not you will have to over-ride it to turn on.

The low pressure switch is on the accumulator. You said it bogs when you turn the air on but the clutch isn't spinning. This could be a problem. The system may be overcharged or you have an open in the clutch coil. I would suggest having the system checked out by a professional. Adding more refrigerant may cause a high side line to blow.
