I have a 95 with a Quad 4 DOHC 2.3L

It is kinda slow and want to bring up the horsepower a bit.
Aside from a new air intake and exhaust system, is there anything else I could do to make it run faster?

Really? its slow? I thought the 2.3's were "fast" from all these people, well, mabye it has to do with the HO and LO and crap, go to www.rsmracing.com and they have 2.3 grand am stuff, look around in there

Keep in mind that the standard tranny is a 3 SPEED!!!

the 2.3HO that was in the Beretta GTZ I know was an awesome motorl, something like 190hp stock out the box, good drivers with a 5spd could pull off 14s stock in those cars.

There was a 2.3 quad 4 LO which is was you have it makes around 150hp then there was the SOHC 2.3 quad 4 that makes 120hp then theres the 2.3 quad 4 HO that makes 180hp, and then the 2.3 quad 4 W41 that made 190hp (but is only an olds option)

As far as performance, RSM is crap dont bother with them, you might want to get the intake manifold off the HO, you could also probably swap for an 086 head (these heads are the best flowing heads that ever came on a 2.3) theres a bunch of things you can do, but i dont know what you have to spend. You could go all out and do a HO convertion, or turbo the car, or run nitrous on it whatever.

Go to www.quad4forums.com best site ever for quad 4 info hands down.

well go on quad4forums and get some ideas, theres a guy with a turboed 95 hes making 315whp on his setup. If you want to make some crazy hp i would ditch the 95 2.3 and get one from an earlier year with a 5speed.

Nice, twice in the same post ... I hope reciprocal comments are made sending leads back here!

There is also a lot of info here if you search for it. We have many threads talking about the differences between the HO and the LO, ways to increase performance, etc. The '95 is the least powerful of the DOHC Quads because of several restrictions it had. And there were no HO engines in '95 either. Personally though, I think the transmission is the biggest difference on any Quad. The manual tranny is so much better mated to the Quad 4 than the auto tranny, as these engines are very peaky in both hp and torque. The auto won't keep you in that peak power range very long, but with a manual, you can hold it there yourself. So if money isn't a problem, I say you should switch to a manual tranny! Then do some other mods...

In our FAQ section, we have a list of parts you need to switch to a manual tranny. http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106

that 3 spd needs to be changed, I'm pretty sure the 2.3HO 5spd will fit your motor, I'm not sure, but around 80% that it will

Yes, the 5 speed will definitely fit.

I don't understand how he could have a 3 spd. auto on a '95. Those had been dumped for the 4 spd. auto in '94 if not earlier...

I thought some '95s did come with a 3 speed?

Regardless, the manual tranny is better for the Quad than either auto tranny... but I'm sure you know that LargeFish. ;) BTW, nice to see you around! I thought you had abandoned us. :)

The guy I bought it from had almost no options aside from auto locks and a spoiler. And unless the tranny kicks into 4th gear in the 70MPH range, then I dont have it.

anytime someone has questions on the GA about the body and so on i send them here or to GMPT. Plus you guys have a link in the top of the site (dont know what type of arangment you have with josh) but i see q4f as being the best source for quad 4 and TC info hands down, so i tell people to check it out alot.

4th is an overdrive. The 3 spd. auto was definitely out of production in '95.

I second the Quad4 forums, they have lots and lots of info that will help you more than most of us here probably can.

Cool ... I just get a little 'touchy' when it comes to members sending members elsewhere when I don't see or hear of it working in reverse ... but please remember, if members simply answer members question ON HERE instead of sending them other places, then we would end up having a much broader knowledge base to search through ... anyway, no matter, all I ask is for members to remember that referrals work both directions and if you say you do this then good stuff, thanks! :)

I understand, its just, i ,for one cant 100% answer his question. so i gave him another option. But i dont see why when i say people should check out another site it means they shouldnt stick around here. I mean im active in alot of boards, jbody.org, quad4forum,gmpt,gaoc,gagt,alermod,pittspeed,gmp so if i can do it im sure other people can to. But yea people shouldnt feel that they have to stick to one board, the more boards you ask questions on the better chance you have at getting you question answer correctly
