1. One of the black boots on one of my ignition coil packs is cracked...I should be able to urethane this back together, correct? It is causing missing on 2 cylinders under heavy load.

2. I have a starter, just need to replace the bad one. How tough is this to do yourself (never replaced one) should I man up and try it, or leave it to the shop?

Well, I JB welded the crack shut, but I'm still experiencing the sputtering. Maybe the crack is elsewhere?!?!?! Anyone know what a coil pack would run me to replace?

I assume there may be some moisture in there yet? Cracks let moisture in which causes the misfireing. I'd put a heat lamp on it or blow it out, maybe even a hair dryer if nothing else.

Thanks for the advice. Anyone else have any pointers or info on new ones?

I have the steps top replacing a starter in a 89 QUAD 4 in the how to section. Just look for my name 4kQuad.

The coils will run between 20 and 70 dollers depending on where you call. The madening thing is there the same part and in the same box for the most part. There is more than one maker, but call around, you will find different prices.

There not bad to replace, (coils) If you read my starter replacement instructions and that sounds doable, then the coils should be easy for you.

I've taken the coil packs out and inspected them, and epoxied them shut, so I don't see any problem with simply replacing them. I'll look into the starter....thanks for the help!
