Don't know if this is the right area to post this question, sorry if it's not. This is probably a stupid question but, I have a GA parts car that has the factory sunroof on it, I was wondering if it's possible to put that on my car. If it's possible what would be the best way of going about this?? Maybe it's not very realistic, but I had a sunroof in my '00 GT1 and loved it (for the whole 3 months I owned it before my friend nailed a deer with it) so now I want one on my 97. I know I could just put an aftermarket one on but I really don't like those as they stick up from the roof, whereas the factory ones are flush with the roof (when closed I mean). Anyway, any advise would be appreciated.

You could put it in, but there is a good chance that it will leak. It will all depend on the exact fit of the sunroof and cut-out, sealant used, etc. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself, but it can be done.

I'm unsure of the type on the older GA's but if it's anything like the 99+ you'll have to do some metal work to hammer down the metal & make a flange. If it is like the 99+ I, myself would just cut the opening out of the sunroof car w/ about 3" of metal around it & then cut the same size opening in the recieving car & weld it in. Then from there the typical bodywork, grind, fill, block sand, primer, block sand some more prep n' paint. Of course you'll have to run your wiring & drain tubes.

... I have seen MANY people simply cut the entire roof off the donor car and weld it on the other car ... this was vary common back in the days of the second generation F-bodys :)

I guess that's what I was thinking of doing, cutting out all or some of the roof and welding it onto my car, didn't know if it could be done though. I'll have to talk to a body shop abouts costs, I wouldn't dare go near my car with a torch, otherwise I'd have 2 parts cars :(

I would go just for the opening & not the whole roof. The whole roof will work too but then you have alot more paintwork to do. If you just do the opening then you can confine most of your paintwork to the roof & just blend @ the top of the sail panels.
Lol, if you're thinking about useing a torch, let someone else do it!:D You're right, don't go near it! Not laughing at you/ just with you.;)

hmmm...never thought about doing it that way. Good idea though that's for sure!

Just gotta be very carefull & controlled with your welding so you don't warp the heck out of it. Otherwise, it's all cut & dried!

both Kelly and Joey's ways are good ways, just which one is more or less cost. There is a chance that it will leak but I guess if taken enough time into sealing it up it should be just fine.

What's gonna leak? Unless the seals were leaking proir to the installation. If anyone has leaky bodywork they've got big, BIG problems!

I wanna make my a convertible like the sct concept car. But for the cost d prolly be better buying a convertible. Not on topic but also not worth its own post. Goodluck with the sunroof. I love mine, and use it from spring to fall its only closed for about 4 months a year.

why not go for a t-top

T-tops don't look so good when you have framed door windows.

There are some aftermarket sunroof installers that can install an aftermarket power moonroof for you and have it look just as good as the factory one. I'd shop around and look at some of their work. Not all of them do the cheap flip-out style.

I had an aftermarket sunroof installed in my 99. It was a company that installs them in dealers cars usually. Didn't leak. Was flush with the roof and only cost $700.
