Hey guys (and gals):
I've been thinking for quite a while about trying to host a GAOC get-together where I live in North West Indiana. We're a hop skip and a jump from Chicago, so there are some possibilities with doing something there for sure. I was thinking a two day meeting, Sat-Sunday. Sat we'd meet up, go to an "unused" parking lot (it used to be a Jewel/Osco, but now they let people use it so long as they seek approval) and have a cookout type deal. That night we'd go to the local track, and have use of the drag strip and oval track to drive around on. Hotel stays at our local super 8 with discounted rates. On Sunday morning, a nice group drive out to my family's restaurant for free breakfast (bout 30-45 minutes, nice an leisurely... two lane highway so we can make a nice parade of GAs) and then head back to the parking lot for competitions (e.g. best in show, appearance mods, sound, performance, etc... awards also for the best from the drag strip the night before). Then maybe head into Chicago to go see a Second City Comedy show.
That last part would be optional of course; Second City tickets aren't cheap (30-40 dollars group rate).
I've been looking into it, and the hotel rooms would be between 20-30 dollars depending on the turn out. If there is a turn out of 50 or so people, we could rent the track for a whole night 100% us only for about 10/person. The contests would be a 5/car entry fee, to cover trophies. The Jewel/Osco mgmt. said they'd be happy to allow us to use the parking lot, and I don't think getting the proper permits from the town would be hard. We might even get a couple cops out to check out the cars :-).
I think this sounds like a lot of fun, and Chesterton is a lot more centrally located than Albany... so it might be a chance for a few more of us Midwesterners to get involved in the club scene.
I just need to get an idea of potential turn out before I go any further. Timeframe would be late spring/early summer.

that wouldn't sound to bad for the wife and I. Plus sis-in-law in shamburg, so no hotel fee for us. lets get the plan moving along.

I really want to do Albany this year but can't firm up my schedule yet (but neither can they). Plus it's like 15 hours for me (good thing I love to drive). Anyway you're only 2 to 3 hours away from me and I would definately consider it. Please keep it posted up. I have yet to meet any of you folks and I think it would be a blast to hang out and get to the track.

Alright, I'm trying to work things out with one of the tracks in the area. There is one towards Chicago a bit, and another one towards South Bend... We really can't go wrong either way, they are both nice facilities. The SB track is near to my family's resturant, so if we were to end up at that one we'd go after breakfast. I'll keep you guys posted, but before I throw down a bunch of money reserving the track I'd like to see a few more people who want to come.

just bumping this along. I need to know that there's more of a committed turn out before I start throwing my credit card around to rent track space *^-^*

I became a recently new proud owner of a 2003 Grand Am GT SC/T. I am looking to get involved with a group and a huge gathering in the Chicago area. I think this would be very cool to do. Keep me posted.

- Evan I'm planning on making a road trip up to MN with a buddy of mine this summer, we have no set time on when we want to go up, so depending on the timeframe he and I may stop in for atleast one day of that.

yea a preffered date would be nice... i would love to go to something like that.. seeing as there are no ga shows around here.... though i haven't really looked since only owning a ga since about 2 weeks ago! :P
but i would be interested if it is during the summer and if i don't work weekends.
