as the title states, whats the differences between the two motors? i know there's some stuff, i just dont remember what. My buddy is planning on a S/C, but its listed as 00-02 jbody cars, so he just wants to know if everything is gonna work before he gets it. its the GM blower, and the auction ends tomorrow round 1130 so some answers today would be cool

Thanks

Something with the EGR valve is different. I had a friend with a 96 sunfire he was gonna s/c and he was told by GM that he needed the EGR valve and a couple other parts from a 99+ unless he didn't care about the check engine light being on. I'm not 100% sure on why its different or how it is...

the 96-98 motors and some 99's have EGR, different knock sensor, low impadence injectors, different intake and exhuast manifold (previsions for EGR crap) compression is 9.5:1

the 99+ have no EGR, different knock sensor, and high impadence injectors, different intake and exhuast manifold (no provisions for EGR crap) compression is 9.7:1

Also the 96-98 have an isuzu 5speed where as the 99+ have the 5 speed getrag. I dont know about the autos, but im pretty sure that they are different too.

as for the gm charger, you have to get a 00+ starter (or maybe even a 99+) and FMU, bigger injectors, and i think thats it.

also note... slight difference in power steering ( i haven't seen visually so what do i know), different tensioner I believe, and the starter itself is well different size (so I've heard)...

yes the starter is different, if you want the GM charger you have to get the 00+ one its smaller, the other one is to big and the positive terminal hits and cuases problems.

rsm racing shows photos of the kits in cars as to accomodate for the image or give you guys the idea of how well it fits, and what gets in the way, also feul management unit injectors, etc are supplied in the kit..... the ones available are ste @ 6psi, or 10psi... the difference between the two is only the gears and pulley... the blower and everythnig else should be the same....although a changed up header back exhaust is reccommended for the 6psi, and required for the 10 psi units.
mantapart performance developed a 2.5L hybrid setup using a 2.4L engine 2.3L cams and new roots type s/c to develop 250 hp @ the flywheel...their site is..... WWW.MANTAPART.COM

that 2.5 is somewhere in the vicinity of $6000-7000

and RSM's kit isn't what we're talking about.
