Well, it is that time of the season in the North... the DeVilles are not driven anymore... I only take them out if the roads are completly clean of any salt or anything... which isn't often....
So, here are some pics I took a few weeks ago... I sure do miss Friday night car shows, Saturday night crusing around with the windows downa nd cranking some music... and spending a Friday afternoon after school detailing the cars :(
the Oldsmobile is a daily driver, bad weather car, winter car, car I take to malls... or when I want to drive a car that gets good gas millage.. as of now there are 125,900 miles on it
'93 DeVille is my baby.... I don't drive it in bad weather (excpet rain) don't go to conjested parking lots etc... but all my fun toys are in that car....now has 98,100 miles...
'79 DeVille is the interesting car of the bunch... my plans are actually to make it a sleeper... which I have already started... first I will be modding the 425 in it... then when the time comes and I have the money, I am going to do a nice complete build up on a 500 and drop that in...
Anyway, here is the 1979 Sedan DeVille d'Elegance with the aftermarket 15" spoked wheels

Front of the '79.... Sometime this coming year I would like to replace the power antenna... it is broke (stuck up) and dosn't pick up stations that good... another cool thing witht he front of the car I like, the lower grille in the bumper which directs air to the bottom part of the radiator. Whenever I get around to it, I want to get a hood ornamet from a '77-'79 Fleetwood, or an '80's Bougham as they have the wreath around the crest.... mine is just the crest.. the wreath was reserved for the Fleetwood... DeVille just got the crest on the hood, and on the steering wheel and trunk it has the \/ under the crest.... but it looks bare on the end of the hood :)

The top dash pad is cracked... it dosn't really bother me... I may replace it in the future, or I may leave it... not really a big deal. The origanal digital AM/FM/8-track radio works fine, the automatic climate control works fine too... although there is a leak on one of the lines going to the compressor... so until I get that fixed, no AC.
I had to make the picture brighter to see it better... the colors are a little off...

car now has 86,500 miles or so... I have put about 2,300 miles on it since I bought it 9also off the road for a long time)
I think it is neat how the wipers/lights/cruise control each have their own little "box" on the dash :) wipers and delay work fine... although I need to replace the washer fluid pump... they always go bad... and my cruise control is a great conversation topic... turn it on, hit set, and sit back as the car accelerates to it's top speed all by itself :) Well, next year when I replace the belts, I am going to replace all the vaccum lines, hopefully that'll fix the cruise problem

power locks, power windows and power seat all work... in fact these windows go up and down faster then most new cars :) It has manual remote mirros (both of them) but I need to oil the cables... and when I was pushing the passenger mirror, I think it poped out of the cable bracket or something... it is all the way to the right and up... hasn't bothered me enough to fix it so far...

The beast :)
425ci 7.0L V8... stock, 180hp @3000RPM and 330ft-lbs tq. @ 2000RPM... redline somewhere between 4,100RPM-4,300RPM
Since I am going to stick with this enigne for a while... in the Spring I'll do a full tune up and some other things... the carburator (QudraJet) needs to be rebuilt badly... so I'll pull that and rebuild that... I have the intake manifold for a 1968 472 that i need to modify... then it'll flow alot better then the 425 intake manifold... so I'll do the carba nd manifold at the same time.
So far I only sanded and painted the air cleaner assembly... once it gets nice out again, I am going to remove everything that is rusty (support bars, radiator covering etc...) sand them and paint them... it'll look much better
with the mods I have in mind... they don't even involve removing the heads (don't want to go that far with the 425) but they should really wake up the engine. It'll still have 8.2:1 compresson... but that's ok... The Turbo400 will get an extenral trans fluid cooler and maybe a shift kit, otherwise it is bulletproof... the rear will be left as well.... 2.28 open... the idea to get would be a 2.73 Posi from a similar year commercial chassis... the Cadillac rear dosn't have anything in common with other GM brands... so it is limited to what I can use... not to mention the big block Cads like to "tug" and not "rev" which is why even the 2.28 is a good match to the big block.

Moving on to the 1993 Coupe DeVille... outside color is Slate Bronze Metallic... 1 of 119 Coupe DeVilles made in this color (1993-only color)
I thought this was a cool pic.

The good 'ol 4.9 (300ci).... small after looking at the 425 but it holds its own. 200hp/275tq. When this pic was taken the enigne hasn't been detailed for about 3 weeks... I still need to get the front valve cover painted...
great engine, very reliable... realitivly easy to work on... this enigne, stock with 1/2 tune up, really bad cat. conv. empty trunk and 2/3 tank of gas ran the DeVille thru the 1/4 in 15.9s @85mph.... I think now that is is in a better state of tune, and if i launch it better... I an squeeze a little more out :)

she now has 98,080 miles or so... the car origanally had the palstic fake wood trim on the dash... but I took the real wood trim out of a Fleetwood in the junkyard, sanded it, stained it and polyurathaned (sp) it... came out pretty nice.

good pics like always :). one thing i hated about the 4.9 is when you try and do a battery test on it. It so close to the ps pump. Cadillac sure did a job hen they wedge it in there

Well, yesterday when I was uploading the pics... the GAOC server went down :( those are only about half of them... so I will finish now:
The wheels are 16" from a '98-mid '01 Seville SLS.... the car had 15" steel wheels with wire wheel hub caps... I miss the white walls, but with these wheels, I think it looks nice... the tires are serrated edge though, so when clean and shined up, it looks really nice.

other side....
... maybe it is the wheels/color/body style of my car... but it just looks so much different (better) then all the other '91-'93 DeVille's I see... don't get me wrong.. I love the style of the '91-'93 DeVille... but mine just means alot to me :)
bought in FL. and in July, she'll be going back to FL. never driven in the winter either unless roads are clean (took it out today to get gas and drive around for a bit) the under body of the car is spotless.... 98k strong!

So much classic styling is in this car... alot of ques dating back many years just in this pic...
I need to replace the Cadillac badge... not this past fall, but a year ago this past fall, when I was hand drying the car, the "C" was lifting, and I broke it off.. I have the piece.. but I am just going to buy a new badge in the Spring.... when I bought the car, the dealer said kids had vandilized some of their cars.. the hood ornament, trunk lock cover and "4.9 Port Fuel Injection" badge (under Cadillac) was missing.. part of the deal was all new badges form Cadillac... in gold (since the car has the gold badge package)... worked for me... so I am going to replace it with a new one.... atleast I got the tacky dealer badge off the side (thing weight about 3lbs... it was a heavy, gold plated, piece of metal.. form Massey Cadillac in FL)

I don't know why int he pics the center caps look a different color then the wheels... in person, they are a little off, but not real noticeable.
when I took this piucture, the car wasn't very clean (you can see the run off spots from the vinyl top... they are a pain) and it hasn't been waxed in about a month (at time of picture) still... lot of depth in the paint :)

the thing on the edge of the panel between the trunk lid and rear window is the XM antenna. This is the sub... 1 15" RF, the amp is a 325watt MTX.... on the side of the box, hard to see is my Alpine 4ch amp... (MRV-540? IIRC) it is 80watts x4 RMS.... that is the amp for the 6 speakers in the car... I turned the amp in the head unit off... it is just used as a source/preamp/tuner... in the crate is all my car cleaning stuff :)

I can't see the wheels very well....are those stock or "True Spokes?"

Here is the Olds.... the beast that keeps on going.... for a 3,200lbs midsize, uni-body car.. this thing is a tank... it has been hit at least 4 times and still keeps on going :)
the smaller dent on the front of the fender was there when I got the car.. then all the other damage happened when I side-swiped the telephone pole last winter.. I have a new door and fender too.. I need to put them on, then fix the damage when the guy hit it recently in the quarter panel, and then get the car painted (my custom spray-paint edition dosn't look all that good)... but, I want to see if the kids in auto body at vo-tec are willing to bang out the dents, and paint it (after I put the new door and fender on) save me time and money...
but... I can't complain... this is a great car and I enjoy driving it, closing in on 126k :)

the wheels on the '79 are true spokes... not hub caps :) they are not factory... they are aftermarket.. but I paid a total of $0 for the wheels and worn tires... and they are better then the mis-matched steel wheels/wrong tire size/badly worn tires/1 origanal hub cap/1 Caprice hubcap/ 2 with no hub caps that was on the car when I bought it :) I am getting new tires all around on it in the Spring... I just gotta burn the old ones off :).... and the Olds got 2 new front tires, and now... this coming week I am getting 2 new back tires... the tires on the '93 I bought new last year... mmm the joy of owning and maintaining 3 cars :)
Here is the heart of the Olds.... 3800 Series I... damn thing will never die... pretty fast too... 165hp/220tq. I pulled the strut bar from a '92 Bonnieville at the junkyard... $10... same exact bar as on the DeVille... it tightened up the front end and made it handle a little better... $10 and 5minutes to remove 4 nuts, slide it on and tighten it down... not bad :) When I got the car a year ago.. as far as the engine goes, it got a tune up... that was all... then a couple weeks ago the water pump went... besides that, it runs great... can't say enough good things about the 3800. the 3800 in 1985 was the first production engine to use distrubutor-less ignition system and SFI fuel injection... then everyone else jumped on the bang wagon shortly after :)
plus, this engine is very nice to work on... unlike the 4.9... it isn't crammed in there... there is alot of room around the whole enigne do remove things and do work... GM seems to have a problem with pain sticking to valave covers though (and the outside of the car in the late 80's!)

well, my mothers '89 Brougham was one of thsoe cars where the dealer installs a whole bunch of aftermarket stuff.... her car has the huge Rolls Royce grille, an after market fabric roof (very nice) aftermarket moon roof (why!?! you can't beat the Cadillac Astro Roof) custom gold edition... and other things... it also had the wheels...
they didn't like the wheels, becuase they got dirty quick... so they were sitting under our porch for years... then I realized they would fit right on my car, and the tires had marginally better tread life on them.. so I used them....
I don't know how much they are worth, they are made by Appliance... never heard of them.... what I do know is that when I get around to building up a 500... these wheels are not going to hold up the the power the engine will produce... so'll I'll have to put the steel wheels back on and get a nice origanal set of some wire hub caps... that's ok though....
I don't see what is so hard about cleaning them though... I have all purpose Eagle 1 wheel & tire cleaner I use on the '79 and '93... I spray it on the wheels and tires, then I use my wheel scrubber brush and quickly go over the wheels, then I use the pressure washer... all the dirt and grime and anything comes right off very quick... they are clean as new!... Purple Power works good too...
another shot of the Olds... I have since added a Pioneer DEH-15 cdp.... so now I can play my CD's in the car... adn the XM is set up with the wireless FM thing...

you can kinda see how long the cars are.... the '79 is almost 20 feet long, the '93 is 2 feet shorter then the '79 and the Olds is about 6" shorter then the '93.... the Olds is about 3-4" longer then a new Grand Am... the Olds is considered a mid-size car... and, unless I ever got a Miata or some exotic 2 seater sports car... I will never drive anything smaller then the Olds... or Grand Am...

interrior of the Olds...
this is when my mother was using the car for about a month... she is short.. that is why the seat is really forward and the steering wheel up... I don't drive like that :)
The Oldsmobile has decent options for it's year and stuff.... p/s and p/b were standard... it has power locks, power windows, 6-way driver seat, both recline flat (nice for sleeping.. same as '93) cruise control, delay wipers... arm rest opens up (just like on the '93) and there is a flip out cup holder, coin holder and big area to put stuff... I was looking at the option codes one time.. this car also has the lowest final drive you could get... 2.93.. probably why it is pretty quick... it has the firm ride and handling package... but the struts are worn, rear air level sturts, which don't work anymore (getting replaced with regular struts) power antenna was broke so I replaced it with a regular one.. car has the high capacity cooling system and high capacity electrical system.... I dunno... there was a whole cool list of codes the car has...
One thing that is cool... if the blinker isleft on for about 2 minutes, the chime goes off to remind you :)

"D" in "DeVille" is missing from the badge...
you can see the peeled paint/surface rust on the left rear door I need to get fixed... it bothers me alot... but whenever i go to a car show, people are very quick to say "woha, the D is missing, did you know that?" but then when I mention the rust spot, they are like "where?!? I didn't even see that" I am like... uh... it is staring right at you
kinda hard to believe this car is gonna be a fast sleeper soon, eh?

last pic for now....
Cadillac is recessed on the '79 and outlined with black... on the '93 it is raised letters and not outlined = hard to see... I like the '79 style better
both of them have to be scrubbed with the tooth brush after waxing as wax lights to get stuck everywhere....
I am surprised the condition of the chrome on this car too... the only bad part is the rear bumper... on the upper, horizontal portional is has those fine cracks that happens from heat/time... everything shines up nice though....

This is what my car will do in about a year :)
this is a 1978 Coupe DeVille... guys name is Shawn... IIRC he is running high 12's... the car weighs 3,700lbs (did some weight reduction) I *think* he is running a 425 (may be a 500... more likely) I know he has the stock bottom end... has head work... I think flat top pistons... stock rods, crank etc... had better rod bolts... free flowing exhaust and Edelbrock intake manifold... and a cam... thats what these hogs really need to wake them up... the emmissions junk really bogged them them....

Sweet rides man. I'm not a huge fan of them but I would LOVE to have either one. The leather interior in the 93 is hot. I think I like the 93 of all but the 79 would be fun. Nice work.
