Well I've been reading up on this low coolant light issues, and I know about the dreaded lower intake manifold gasket :(
My question now is: has anyone gotten GM to cover the cost of this? If so, how? And, if anyone's had it replaced and paid for it, how much was it? What is a reasonable price to expect to pay?

They won't pay for it. They still refuse to acknowledge there's a problem, and recall it. Write them though, if enough people will do that, GM may finally give in.

around 600-1000 is the price range. Go to your dealer and see how much they want. The dealer told me 725ish to change the one on our 3100.

I got a place to do it that specializes in engine rebuilds and stuff like that, and they charged me $825 CAD for everything (gasket kit, plugs, stat, coolant, oil change, labour, taxes etc) Just find a reputable shop (which are usually cheaper than the dealers) and try to get a decent warranty from them.

I know someone who called GM customer service and he got them to pay for repair. Definitely shop around. I called 2 dealers around my area. One told me around $600, and the other one told me $900.

For my 3100, to fix the replace the LIM, together labor and parts was $249. I've heard that the 3400 and 3100 are very alike.

You are very lucky to get it done for that low price.

My brother had his done for 350$ CAD, at the dealer.
Shop around, let them understand you know it's a common problem and how to fix it but that you're just too lazy to do it yourself ;)
Start by asking how much just for the parts, then ask how much for them to do the job for you...

I was gonna just casually have them do it and pay whatever the amount they ask for, but after seeing countless number of people on boards that have this leak, I think it would be worth some convincing.

Thanks, didn't see these posts till today, GAOC is supposed to email me when there's a response.
UPDATE:
Car is at dealer now. I first called Pontiac, and I let them know that I know how common the problem is, and I want to know if there's anything they can do about it. They told me to bring it to the dealer, so they can do a diagnostic on it to confirm it's the LIM. The dealer just left me a message confirming that the LIM is leaking. Now I have to wait for the dealer to call Pontiac, and for Pontiac to call me back and let me know if they can do anything. Pontiac is supposed to call me back this afternoon. We'll see what happens. I'll post the outcome.
