Well the auto trans in my 2000 GA (4 cyl, automatic) is finally giving out... The slipping is getting scary.. My local shop, whom I trust and have known for years, is saying around 2 grand for a rebuild.. Has anyone ever used or know of an aftermarket performance company that rebuilds these trannys, better than stock???? My local guy says there is nothing that can be changed, performance wize to make this tranny better than stock, the shift points are all computer controlled..
Any suggestions and/or comments please???
THANK YOU!

1. I think he's right.
2. Why would any right-thinking, profit-making aftermarket company make performance parts for the tranny of GA's and other smaller GM's?
GM may support NASCAR racing and Caddy is thinking about Le Mans, but that's about it for 'performance'.
Ricers use Japanese vehicles and *usually* manuals, so the market for a performance GM small auto is just about you, me and a few other people on this board.
3. You *might* find a torque converter with a higher stall speed, but it would prolly lack 'lock-up'.
4. It's not just a tranny, it's a transaxle. You might find something with a lower (higher numerically) drive ratio, or one with a limited slip.
Sorry, I don't know any sources.
Maybe Google 'performance transaxles' and filter-out VW.
Good luck.
