View Full Version : Getting a check, new car for me.
Alright, I want a car in the 5-10,000 range. What would you get? I know everyone will say Grand Am, and a grand am like flatline's or that beverly hills guy is the only way I would choose another grand am.. (98gt, aed/sc-t whatnot)
Must haves
manual transmission
pref. leather
power everything, sunroof would be nice.
coupe or sedan
I wouldn't mind a Dodge Stealth 6spd with leather seats, the works or a Golf GTI. I also like 300zx's, mustangs and such. A small truck is also an option, chevy xtreme/dodge dakota.
The whole point is I need a reliable car with under 187k like all the cars I've had. It needs to be able to drive across the states when it needs to and not break down. I need something with not much more than 60k because it's a big issue for me. My all time dream car is a 1973 BMW 2002 fully restored and with some aftermarker parts and body work. I can now get this car but that would spoil the fun I would have building the car which I don't have time to do right now.. so I'm saving that one for when I get out of college. Any imput would be nice, I'll probably check out 2 or 3 dealerships tomorrow. I'll get the money 1-2 months from now which is going to be torture as I just cancelled a deal i almost did on a 93 ford ranger which I really wanted.

Mazda Protege is quite a car, especially 2000 on up.

My bro bought a 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T for about $11,000. Fully loaded except for the autostick feature, low miles, and the V6 with 200 HP hasn't seen much action yet since it's snowed ever since he bought it.

How much do you want to spend? I can't find it in the description.

Heh fishman. :P
On a sidenote, I'm not spoiled or anything and I personally would rather get this truck I want for 700 bucks and deck it out over the next few months, spend maybe 3-4000 on it total, it would be a nice little show-truck. It has euro lights, clear LIDs corner headlights, lowering springs coming, 5 speed, painted interior pieces, CAI, and it's sanded down and bondo'd in places, tailgate shaved and bondo'd, paint would be 60-120 bucks for any color I want. Moddified grill looks sweet, chrome... This is what I REALLY want but it's not too reliable, just a style I like.
Heh fish, it's alright man. We understand... ;p
This is the car I would like:

so yeah, a 3000GT would be similar and nice as well. I don't know, I'm going to check some dealerships. I'm probably going to head for the 8-9k tag, get something with lower miles and fully-loaded rather than higher miles, fully loaded, lower price tag (with money to mod) I'm only 17, I don't need performance mods or anything to make me speed and lose my license a week after I do a fancy mod to get more horsies., a stock car is nice for me as long as it has leather seats for me to sweat in and stick to in the steaming hot summer, then i'll be happy. I'm obsessed with leather for some reason, and any car with leather is a luxary car to me, no matter how much of a clunker it is. :p
Back on topic, in 2 months I'm sure I'll see a Chevy Colbalt with 30,000 miles or so for under 10,000. :)

It wouldn't have a manual tranny, but it's still a lot of fun to drive - '97+ Buick Regal GS (3800 Supercharged) with 240 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. :D And easily upgradeable to go even faster!
Also very comfortable and reliable.

98+ Fbody(LS1) simple as that
reliable, tons of power and upgradeability simple answer if you ask me/
So many choices. 3Dee, that's what I've been told to get is a Civic. I wouldn't mind one either, driven a few of them and they're great little cars. I think I would like something a bit different though. Dealerships don't have 300zx's or many 3000GT's in the lots. I would feel better buying the car from a classic dealer and not a self owned dealership. If I do see one of those cars at a small dealer I will of course look into it and get the car-fax and all. Also Dee, your stang was under 10k? How many miles are on it?

Oh, there it is.:isuck: Ok, happy? My self-esteme is all gone.
How about a old (1990 or older) M-series.
Fishman, as I said, a 73 bimmer is my dream car, and theres plenty fully loaded 84's with 100k on the engine for around 3-4k. I'm tempted but it's not really that reliable as an older car would need work. a 90 - would be alright but a bit more expensive. I need something with at the very most 65k.
The dodge dealership had a 05 neon brand new for 15,500 but it's a little above my limit, a used SLT or whatever they are would be a fun little car.
I'm going to keep looking at dealerships, I still have 20-60 days before I get the money so there's plenty of time. I might end up buying from a private seller through auto-trader if I can't find a nice car, that way I can narrow it down a bit more. I'm really really wanting a 300zx, stealth or a mustang GT... I'll let you all know what happens.

i still dont see why you arnt considering the 98+ LS1 powered F-bodies.
I'll look at them., 92cam. I've never been a fan of them though, just not my type of car. This is the only one I could find anyways: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6427&item=4521602373&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
:p
I drove by the honda dealership today and saw a yellow lancer in the lot. My first thought was, "yeah... a good 25k for that thing".. While looking on auto-trader, I bumped into the car, under 9,000:

I'm going to go look at it tomorrow. If I had the money right now, I would probably go buy it. I doubt they will still have the car when I have the money in my hands though. This is def. going to be on my list of 3-5 cars to pick from.

yea there are many more with less miles, just one of the firsts ones i ran across, i wouldnt worry to much about mileage with a LS1 them things can go for a good 200-300k miles. VERY reliable.
I think I've almost made up my mind..
2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally
1995 Dodge Stealth
Two cars I have always liked and never knew to be so affordable. Everytime I see a Lancer, I always thought "ayyeee, a nice 20k+ out your poket, yes?" And you can find them in good shape for less than half of that.
They're great little cars and are perfect enough stock. I wouldn't want to do any exterior mods to it for the most part, but I'm sure I would do things like painted callipers, big mesh grill, and an after-market hood w/ scoops. The rims on this car are nice. I went and looked at the car today, and drove to another dealership and saw another one along with a Stealth.
My biggest customizing in my new car will be a custom built computer system with touch-screen. AKA a "Car-puter" and a nice little sound system (nothing to rattle peoples houses, just a little bump for me. I'm still looking into other cars, but I'm in-love with this lancer and feel there isn't a lot that could tear me away from it. I'm not looking for a car that will smoke away other cars, and this 4cyclinder engine is puny but I could aways move into engine mods later on when I'm ready.
make sure to see how much insurance is going to be on the cars. I thought I would let you know. I have some friends that have a lancer and their insurance is high.

The lancer is no where near 25k it is a econo box the evo is the good one. No offense to any lancer owners but I know several people say they suck bad no get up and go.

I 2nd the f-body 98+ Stock for stock it will spank any mustang gt
When I get the money I'll look at other cars. I love the lancer and it's in no way a sports car. It goes from 0-60 in 9 seconds, very slow. I don't need a fast car now, but might want one in 2 or 3 years. I'll check other cars out but I really want something you don't see all the time.. GA's, hondas etc are all cars you see all the time. Very boring. You don't see 300zx's or Dodge Stealths everywhere so I'm going to keep looking for one, and they're not so slow either. Just hard to find with as low of miles I want.
Looking into a 2002'ish Golf GTI. Theres plenty out there for under 10k, I think this might be choice #1 for me if I can find one. I've always loved this car and everything about it. It has a nice little turbo engine, kicks some HP and should be a reliable car for me, and a lot of fun for mods.
