my ebay "CAI" should be coming tommorow morning...if i dont get it on in the morning, i wont be able to do it for 2 more days (work/school)
so what is everything i will need to do to remove the stock air filter assembly and whatever tubing there is. then, wat is involved in putting the CAI on? hopefully it will take under an hour. i should be able to figure it out myself, but i want to get any trouble out of the way right now so i can get it done on time tommorow morning.

ok so that is just a WAI (for future reference)... either way u need a socket to take off the bolts that hold that big black cover that hooks up to the TB off, and a flat head screw driver (or a small socket) for the clamps. You will need to undo the sensor that is plugged in the stock stuff, and plug it in to the black hole on the gray piping. once u take all the old shit out/off, the blue piece slides over the TB the pipe w/ goes into that (w/ the black hole for the sensor being the side that plugs into the blue piece) and put a clamp over it. The filter goes on teh other end w/ the other clamp and away u go

awesome. thanks for that. just making sure there wasnt more then just taking the big black plastic cover off. cuz i took the bolts out real quick today and tried to pull the cover off but it wouldnt move. also...does this cover go back on or does it stay off once i have my new intake installed?

it's not a cover.. it quiets down the air... it gets tossed in the garbage regardless.

if you look where the TB is there is a hole in that "cover" put your flat head screw driver in there and loosen the strap around the tb and it should come off, also not that when you pull it off you will have to remove the hose connected to the underside of it, basicly lift it off the tb then look under it and see the hose and remove it by hand then take the "cover" the rest of the way off.

i was looking on cardomain at malibus, and noticed a guy on here had his intake with the air filter housing still on, but with the top half gone. would this be more effective with my setup? since air is still coming up that tube? here are some pics..you should get what im trying to ask:

and this guy has a weird setup...the stock half that connects to the tb, then he goes with the aftermarket stuff...i wonder why....and if its actually better?

thats a really cheap setup, but you might be able to see, he has some piping (probably dry ducting) that goes from somewhere around the batter to the bottom half of the box.

I took the elbow off in front of the air box malibu and grand am. When it was in place the cars where not sucking that much air. Now that it's off my car is alittle louder at 3k and higher and malibu got alittle more perky.

you talking about the elbow that leads from the box the air filter sits in...that leads to the throttle body (or towards the engine), or the one that goes down to the fender/front bumper? mine is still on the car, even though the entire intake system after that has been replaced with the "cai" i got

hmm...i see......so do you recommend removing mine, even though i dont even have the stock air filer box on? the tube sorta leads to near my filter now, but im not sure if it is helping or hurting anything now.

up to you guy :) I don't think it will make that much difference. Since I took that elbow off on my grand am also i did not bother to put it back in. It's kinda of cool we have the same color malibus

another side note
I got my WAI installed, it was just like the one tom has, but crome and a grey cheap filer. I installed it last night in the dark and cold. It was pretty easy. I also had to extend the IAT too. My car is now pretty perky to 100 now.

our exterior is identical, i have the same ballin 15" wheel covers too (with the chrome lug nut covers!) ...is your interior tan also? i hate it, and the color is alright, but i got an awesome deal on it.
