the ecotec has some new-fangled ingnition case or something, no servicing for 100,000 miles or something, maybe you should wait til somebody replies that actually has the engine and doesnt just wish they had it :(

You know the cover on the engine that says Ecotec. They are under that cover inside the top of the engine there

sweet, I kinda like the fact that they are hidden. I don't plan on touching that for a while though

well thats good. I will probably keep the stock spark plugs since i dont really plan on doing anything major with the engine or keeping it anywhere near 100,000 miles

This should need wires. It should have 4 boots that connect the cover/coil pack to the plugs itself. That is, if it is the same as my Quad 4. I haven't looked at these yet.

The Ecotec engine does not have spark plug wires. It uses an electronic ignition.

it also doesn't have a cap or rotor it's a distrubless igniton so instead of the cap and rotor it has 2 coil packs.

so how do you take the cover off to change them?

I haven't taken the top off the 2.2L yet but it should be the same as the 2.4L. Take the bolts out and rock the cover while pulling up. Before removing the plugs, clean the crud that collects in the wells so it doesn't fall into the engine.

You take the bolts off on top like tenspeed said, but you also have to take off the little rail that holds a couple of lines in place, can remeber what they are could be fuel. But you want to make sure you dont drop the screw for the rail, I always put a towel with a magnet in it under it do if it drops i dont lose it.

Alright, here's how I do it everytime (i like to keep my plugs clean)
- Move the Throttle + Cruise cables out of the way.... I just bent that metal bracket back instead of taking it off
- Undo the bolts ontop of that plastic cover (10mm I believe)
- Take that cover off, put it aside... I always kept the coil packs connected, so I do it when the engine's cool enough for me to rest it all on the header
- Shop Vac that whole area
- Those 4 holes are where the plugs are.... I use a deep socket 14mm(IIRC) on a 3 inch extension to get my plugs out..... but, loosening them completely and actually removing them are different. I carefully use a pair of long needle nose pliers to gently grab the top of the plugs after I loosened them completely to pull them out.... Scissors work too, but are a pain.

I use a spark plug socket on a breaker bar, its pretty easy to do it that way the spark plug stays in the socket tight when i lift it out, ive never had it fall.
