Ok, my Check Engine light has been on for a couple days now. I just took it up to AutoZone to have the codes run and the guy said that it was general emissions. Could be anything from a leak to the gas cap (most likely the gas cap). I filled up with gas and put the cap on tight and the light is still on. Any other ideas that I can try before I have to take it into a shop? I don't really want to take it to a shop if it can be done myself.

Also, I decided maybe unplug the negative terminal for 10 minutes.. What size wrench will get the terminal off?

'Normal' size wrench for side-post terminal is 5/16".

That will *prolly* erase the code and turn-off the light.
But the light will come right back on next time you turn on the engine.
If the problem goes away by itself (which is what you're hoping it has), then the car's computer also turns off the light (tho the code remains 'stored' for a technician to read).

Closest OBD-II code to "general emissions" is:

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction; from:

http://www.obdii.com/codes.html

First step is to look closely under the hood and see if there are any loose/broken/cracked vacuum lines.

Then, borrow a cap from somebody else and see if that cures the tankcap condition, or just buy a new one.
Prolly cheaper than having a mechanic check the cap/tank for leakage.

Good luck.

Thanks Rick. I'll take a look under the hood and use a different gas cap tomorrow when I head out to my car.

It's just an annoyance to have that light on even though the car runs just fine like always.
