I used touch up paint and then 1200 sand paper. not really very happy with it though cause even after two grits of compound I can still see the scratches. after a good coat of wax it disappears but returns after the wax wears off. I also would like to hear from someone who knows what they are doing because I still need to do more repair but won't do it cause I don't like the results. didn't mean to step on your thread.
thanks

What i always say its dab some touch up paint on the chip. Let it dry a bit, then get a sanding stone (square gray looking block) flatten out the touch up. You shouldnt really be touch the surround paint TOO much cause if you do you will probably make the touch up stand out even more. After you flatten it a bit, then take a buffer with a wool pad and use some rubbing compound and buff the area a little bit and see how well it will cover it up. Depending on how well you flattened it, it should almost dissapeare. Then after you do that, if you can use a foam pad, if you can get a foam pad, then just use an orbital and some swirl mark remover from 3m. That will take off most swirl marks made by the buffer... depending on the color of your car.
As far as taking out sanding marks in paint, depending on how much you took off, just use some 3000, wet sand it a bit and then buff it with a wool pad and a buffer. You could also use some 1500 and sand the area a little, then use the 3000 after that. The way you do 3000 is you have to sand the area around it, not just the part you sandind, to get the orangepeel to match a bit better.
Hope that helps, if you have any more Q's let me know...
