You have the infamous '94-'95 'transition' computer system.
Not the 'old' OBD-I, and not the 'new' ('96+) OBD-II.
Yours is kinda the OBD-1.5, and there is NO commercially-available reader. Even well-equipped shops like Firestone can't read your damned thing.
Only GM dealers have the connector and software.
Somebody else may know a 'paper-clip jumper method' for retrieving codes from your 'OBD-1.5', so wait for an 'Old Guy' to sign in here.
(Don't re-post in Old Guys, since we all cruise this forum, too).
If your oil light EVER comes on, it's because of: low oil pressure or loose connection. You need to track down that problem. It's completely (well, essentially completely) independent of the 'puter.
An occasional engine light is *often* caused by a close-to-failing O2 sensor. This would be especially true for an older model such as yours, if the O2 sensor hasn't been replaced in years (or ever).
Pretty cheap, easy, and necessary for proper operation, So I would just throw money at a new one (~$40 + ~$12 for the special socket for removal/installation).
Good luck.

1994.
The 94 and early 95 3100's were MAFless... the MAF and OBDII were added for 96 and on some late 95's.

I have a '98 Grand Am GT (3.1L). My SES light came on a couple weeks ago. I had the code read by Autozone. After fixing what I thought was the problem (a bad O2 sensor), the SES light remains on.
Should the light automatically go off if the problem is fixed, or do I need to have Autozone "reset" the SES?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

It should go off after like 30miles of driving but you can go to autozone to have them reset it or disconnect the battery for like min 30min and the computer will reset.
