roller tip rockers "manta sport"
light weight pulley "RSM"
Gasket match inake manifold (upper & lower)Did my self
Poly engine mounts
ACDelco plugs+wires (no junk) Have
Shave Heads "easy pushrod motor"
custom DHP piggy back "told me they would do for my 96"
Good luck: PS. if you race the 1/4 leave the car in 2nd gear

3100gagt: Why leave it in 2nd?

dont leave it in 2nd....you can manually shift the car from 1st to 2nd then to drive or 3rd....but if u do dont forget to shift...bad things can happen when cars go above redline....trust me i know..

You dont want to manually shift at all in an automatic at the track.

i don't know about your transmissions, but my 2nd gear hits redline around 90mph. if i leave it in D, the car shifts to 3rd around 80mph. i'm better off holding L untill the end of the 1/4, where my 1/4 mph is about 90 or a little less. i suspect the reasons for leaving the car in 2nd are the same.

i like FFP's pulley better than RSM's - FFP's is just as light, smaller, and is the only one on the market to actually post dyno results. + it's cheaper.

poly engine and tranny mounts and lightweight rims will help you transfer power to the ground, but not really make any power. tires and brakes, you need this stuff, but don't expect them to give you any sort of boost.

you can swap a 3400 throttle body ( 56mm vs. 52mm ) pretty easily.

hold your foot on the brake and rev to about 1200rpm for a better launch. don't do this for very long at a time!! unless you really want to rebuild your transmission.

you can get a CAI made for your car from tranzgenic.com - probably best thing for it, but it's pretty easy to make one. slapping a cone filter under the hood doesn't count and doesn't really do anything besides make noise.

Cut out your cat and resonator. That will free up the exhaust a little, then make yourself the cai. I loved the intake i made, cost about 90 and made the car run a bunch better.

Also for racing - Leave it in drive or 3rd the whole way. Dont manually shift out of 1st, you will not gain anything. Also when you launch brake torque it up to around 1500-1800 or a better launch. The car doesnt have enough power to roast the hell out of a good set of tires. This will get much better 60' times. Trust me i had tried it all with my old car and those were the best results i had. Just dont brake torque for 20 seconds and you should be fine. Just bring up the revs when you are staged.

don't cut out your converter. it's illegal, hurts economy and it makes it hard for the rest of us to breathe. if you have an 02 sensor in the exhaust line it'll fry without the cat, and your engine will run like poop. don't cut out your muffler either; it's also illegal, and you will gain little to nothing at the expense of being at risk of many tickets that will cost you more than worthwhile performance mods.

if you want to do exhaust work, do it right; get a full mandrel bent upsized system ( like 2.25" ) from the manifolds back with new, upsized cat and muffler.

you can legally and safely remove your resonator - it might free up .034hp -- probably not worth the effort either if it's all you do.

How is it illegal to not have a muffler? SRT-4 comes stock with no muffler. I doubt it would be cuz its too loud since I've heard a 3100 with 3" exhaust with nothing but a cat and it wasnt that loud

kentucky, ohio, colorado, tenessee, virginia, new york all have laws requiring mufflers. i'd say most of the other states do as well. you do your own research.. the issue is noise level, and you might be surprised by how loud 80db - or whatever applicable law allows - actually is. 100,000 people might get away with it, but i'm not reccomending anything illegal.

Ok im not trying to argue on this one but i ran catless and resonatorless for a good 8 months in my 97, never threw codes and the car ran better without them. I actually have numbers to proove it as well. I ran at the track in my car tons of times, had near 100 passes with it and got my best times with no cat. I even got pulled over 3 times with the exhaust done and never got a ticket for loud exhaust, only 1 time was it mentioned at all. Now it may be different in michigan than anywhere else but im talking from my experience. I also know tons of people that run catless and have never been bothered about it.
