this is for my sisters 93 or 95 . We replaced battery, it just makes a loud clunk when trying to start. tried to turn engine by a wrench on the accesorry pully, possibly with the 3300? and could not. is that even. I think the engine is just locked up. changed oil in mid jan. and oil was black in mid feb. and low. she added more and one day the motor just stopped. its about 2 qts. low. also has a crack in thr radiator support. may have help it lock up if coolant was low.
Well any body in the md area got any deals on new motors? or should she ge t ot of that car. it has other problems:(

I'm no mechanic but the few things that I do know about cars is my guess would be a starter. if it just clunks when you turn the key that would be my first guess. but if she was driving it and it just quit running then maybe the engine did lock up due to lack of oil or other reasons.

If it's safe...put your finger on the starter and have some one turn the key to start the car. If the clunk is coming from the starter, then it ( the starter)is enguaging into the fly wheel, but motor is not turning over. Jump it... if it still will not spin the motor...it's most likely locked up.

Make sure it really is locked up...if it is unless you want to put a couple grand in it. Time for the next car.

if you take a long breaker bar and the correct socket and put it on the harmonic balancer and try to turn the car over by hand and it will not budge then your motor is definatly locked up. if so either get a new motor or get another car. good luck let me know what happens.

oh okay, I bet the motor was siezed anyways. However I would have rather bought another grand am than buy a neon.
