would switching to synthetic oil help my engine with the knocking that the 4's have, and also if I do choose to switch to it should I start out with a synthetic blend before going straight to synthetic. thanks

knocking? as in you spun a bearing and now the motor is knocking? no oil will fix that.

I have a 2000 GA with 84000 on the 2.4 and I use Mobil1 Full synthetic 5w-30. I think it works great, but I didn't have a knocking sound.

I use Mobil one to, I would say its the best off the shelf motor oil you can buy, maybe besides Amisol or Royal Purple, but bother are significantly more money then Mobil 1 is

did you see the warped rods? I'm betting it's more like spun bearings.

yeah... well I used some bad turm analogy it wasn't a knocking sound it was more of a tickin someone told me that could be the lifters that make that sound. they also said to help fix that my next oil change I should add 1/2 qt of tranmission fluid to help with that. Im not to sure about that anyone else hear anything like that being done? thanks

pffft...yeah! You cant see through metal? Sheesh.

But seriously, I found out they were warped after the engine was fixed; also the bearings were shot.

^ I don't think theres any truth to it. It's never been proven.

If I do switch....I'll usually run a synthetic blend for 2 changes or so before going fully synthetic.

It's 14* out right now.

It's been ALOT colder out earlier this year.

thats about the same temp

so using mobil 1 synthetic 5w 30 its ok in the very cold because figure when your driving your car and the wind is blowing they say there is a 15 degree diff so when its -5C below out its actually about -20C below..
