I've got a 2000 Grand AM SE with a 2.4 in it and i'm looking to do an engine swap when i get enough money for the engine. My brother-in-law is a mechanic so he'd be helping me with the project. I was looking at putting the engine out of a GTP in my car but i was wondering what engine you all would recommend putting in my car, and it doesn't have to be a pontiac engine if there's a better one out there that'll fit. Thanks

How much money, time, experience and expertise do you have?

Anything can be done, everything will require fabrication and custom work to an extent.

If you wanna go all out you could get any engine you wanted, given some $$$,but Id stick with the GTP engine, the 3.8L,since it is a Pontiac/GM engine. As long as your bro-in law knows stuff about GM then I don't see any problems, you would have to get the PCM for that engine though or your gonna have a hell of a time trying to get it work with the GA PCM. I think the 3.8L is a good strong engine, even better would be the supercharged 3.8,unless it already is SC'd. Then you would have an easy 14 sec 1/4 mile car since the GA is lighter.

If ya got the money and the hook ups to get the engine pulled and put in then I say you won't have much trouble, will need new engine mounts and stuff.

i know that the founder of gmpower.com did the GTP engine in his 95 GA (if i remember correctly), but i havnt heard anything from him in years. i know that there is some stuff involved like sensors that need to be messed with and the PCM needs to be changed if i remeber correctly. the motor mounts are probably the least of your worries, but they will need to need to be modified. good luck in the swap...post lots of pics when its done.

The wiring is going to be the hardest thing you have to do.

I would swap the transmission and the engine from the GTP. our trannies are junk as is, and that GTP tranny is barely better, but would be MUCH better if you were swapping. Hell, I'd like a 4t65HD in my car instead of that sissy 4t45 that I feel like I'm gonna break in half driving :P Good luck, the wiring will definitely be the most time consuming part. You will probably need custom half shafts as well.
