quick question,
i've tried a few things to get rid of the rattle in the rear deck. i've stuffed a towel underneath to try and put pressure on it from underneath and i've used some peel and seal (similar to dynamat) and each thing helped somewhat. but i'm still getting a bit of rattle.
i was wondering if drilling some holes along the back window (window is tinted so it wouldn't be seen from the outside) would relieve some of the pressure and cut the rattling out??
has anyone tried this and has it worked???
thanx for any help

humm this may sound like and overly simple answer but have you tryed titening your speakers down. I know every once in a while one of the screws comes loose and it causes a rattle. I just titen it and the rattle goes away. Im just sayin this cause sometimes people overlook the simplest solution

I wouldn't drill any holes, it won't make much of a difference. I've done it before on my last car. Mine used to rattle until I fixed it. I put dynamat down between the rear deck (metal part) and the speakers, then bolted them down. To prevent the carpeted deck from rattling I took a piece of wood (thick enough to put a bit of pressue against the deck), glued some carpet to it and placed it between the 2 speakers in the middle under the rear deck. That solved my problem.
I would turn up the music and listen to the rattle, press on the rear deck and see if that really is your problem...It should stop if it is. If not, then start looking somewhere else.

My 95's got 2 10's on full blast and I dont get any rattle. Maybe something was changed on the 97. I know that the rear deck was changed for the new rear end. Maybe that deck vibrates for some reason. So yeah, try tightening all bolts.

I ripped off the part that covers the back 6x9s and glue some foam to it in a few areas....stopped the rattle all together

Be happy your cause for rattle is just the rear deck. Mine is the trunk, the rearview mirror, I could go on... lol. I found out after the purchase of my car (about a 2 months after) that it had been in some kind of accident. Alot of things are crooked, especially the trunk. So i'm guessing there is some sort of chassis distortion(wc?)
try the wood like nice96gt said, thats what im going to be trying soon.

If a 94 is the same as '96 for speaker/rear deck setup...which it should be in a sense if not exactly the same...here are some instructions...

The rear ends are the same. They just restyled the bumper tail lights and trunk lid. All cosmetic changes not realy changes to the car itself..........Some cars just rattle, some dont.Just have to find whats rattling and do somthing about it

sounds like alot of work taking off the rear deck, i might try stick something between it and the back window because when i pushed there it stopped rattling. but if that dont work i guess im gonna have to take it apart

as for putting something in the back window...i kinda tried that and it didn't really help...taking off the rear deck and doing stuff underneath is the best way to solve it.
its not too hard to get it out...i think it took me about a half hour so....back end looked completely gutted out (fiance looked at it...turned and went back inside the house....lol). but its not as hard as it sounds to get at it.

my next solution is putting the two new 12" pioneers in the trunk...turn up the volume....that way i don't hear the rattle!!! although i might hear other rattles....

doesn't work like you think it would. even when i turn the 18" up to try and drown it out the rattle still takes precedent over the bass. it's just that annoying noise that you can't seem to get rid of no matter what you try to do to mask it. i've been meaning to take some dynamat extreme and do emily's back deck in an attempt to stop the rattling. dave (caraudiodave) done this with his back deck and said it worked.........BUT, that's on the 99+ models. not sure if it would help your body style out or not

well i shoved something inbetween that and the rear window on both side and the middle and hopefully that will work, if not ill take it all apart and put something under it

Dont worry guys, I have the annoying rear deck rattle as well and I cant seem to fix it right. I guess ill have to spend some real money and do a good dynamat job on the trunk area, but that wont be done until I make a new custom sealed box for my babies. Ill keep you posted if I try anything new that seems to fix it and keeps it that way. Thats the real problem I have, yea I can tighten the screws, and such, but it only works for so long and I still have massive rear view mirror problems. ;)

well since i got the two 12's put in, the rattling really shows now. kinda figured it would. but as i was looking at it, has anyone tried fiberglassing a new rear deck that would pretty much run right against the rear deck and eliminate the air space. kinda 'glass around the 6x9's so those are exposed and then keeping it right against the rear deck (the metal part). just a thought. i've never fiberglassed so i'd have a friend of mine do it if he could. i kinda would like to have the 6x9's exposed to show those off but don't want to cut up the rear deck and have it turn out crappy.

anything's possible if you're willing to do it. but in my opinion it'd be more trouble than it's worth unless you're going for a show quality interior. it would be hard to sand some of the glass down smooth by the window, and it'd be even harder to paint and it come out looking good. unless you took the back glass out, which kinda falls under the "impractical" category. unless, again, you're going for a show quality interior
