i think my torque converter may be slipping, a lot of times, going around corners and accenerating halfway through the car acts like its in neutral. whats something like this cost??

Precision can build you one for around 600 bucks. Its based off of their vigilante series.

my corsica did the same thing, the tranny was a 4T60-E
im not sure what the 3400's got, the corsica was a 3100
i checked the tranny fluid wrong so it looked full, took it to a tranny shop and they said they had to add 4 quarts of fluid, it was just low on fluid.. and since the torque converter is a fluid connection... you see why it act like its in neutral
check your tranny fluid!!!

It's a sealed system, there is no offical "check" point. Most people just remove the add cap and look in there.

Yup I think that was extremely stupid not to give us a tranny dipstick...... GM does want us buying new cars after a few years, I guess LOL. I also hate the fact how I don't have a voltmeter.

ok, here is the thing. Fluid is full. I drove it to LA (500 miles) and back. it smelled burnt when i got there. there is no R, N, 1,2,or 3 only D. and that is VERY slow to get up in speed. my 1/4 mile just dropped to 3 mins...lol. Is it worth fixing?

Well the torque converter doesn't control your shifting. It sounds like you have an internal tranny problem. Time for a rebuild or a new one, I think. :(

You were able to get around with no reverse?!?!

If your feels like there are about dozen torque converters between the engine and the tranny, check the battery!!

Sounds weird, but because first gear is an electric solenoid, a bad battery (or a bad connection, or a bad solenoid) REALLY affects the gripping power.
This solenoid is not only First gear, it is used in combo with the hydraulics to control the other gears.

Really look into this (as well as low fluid) before paying $$ for a TC or new/rebuilt tranny.

I really dont know your situation at all... But just check your PCM fuse, in the fuse box.... I had a Baaad problem with my tranny, and thats all it was...
I also had that neutral thing in the corners, accelerating out of it..
I was Low on fluid and smelt the burntness...Soo I Lukased it and tightened all the pan bolts a bit, since they vibrate themselves loose...
