i have this LED for my car alarm that flashes and it is ridiculously bright....too bright then i would like. i took it apart and saw that its just wired with a resistor on the pos wire. if i add another resistor, will it dim it at all?

Should, or you could try replacing the current resistor with a different one

You could put a variable resister in line and beable to change the brightness of it.

Either or will work. More resistance will limit the current, making it dimmer.

I put a lot of resistance for my amp(/subs) power indicator LED, but it didn't change much... so I ended up putting vinyl over it. For the vinyl, I used a paper-puncher to get a circle piece then carefully formed it to the bulb.
Resistance is probably easier, and I just didn't put enough on, but I didn't want to bother with getting more resistors when the vinyl was just sitting there.
