After what sems like an eternity, our Live Chat is now back online and ready for use! To enter the chat, simply click on the Chat (http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/chat.php) button at the top of the forums. Keep in mind that because the Chat will open in a new window, you may have to disable any pop-up blocking software.

There are a few points of notice:
Regular GAOC rules (http://www.gaownersclub.com/rules/index.php) of conduct still apply.
The chat requires that Java (http://www.java.com/en/download/download_the_latest.jsp) be installed. To download Java, Click here! (http://www.java.com/en/download/download_the_latest.jsp) or visit java.com (http://www.java.com).
Usernames that contain illegal IRC charictors may cause a problem. You may have to choose a different userID
The IRC server may take a moment to log you in. Please be patient.
Usernames can not start with a number.

ok its being really stupid to me, here is what it says from the moment i hit connect.


AUTH*** Looking up your hostname(this is in blue)
AUTH*** Found your hostname, cached(this is in blue)
AUTH*** Checking Ident(blue)
AUTH***No ident response(blue)
Your username is invalid(black and italic)
Connect with your real username, in lowercase.(black and italic)

ok, i got it so the screen loads, but now im back to getting the same errors.

Try a different email address.


ALSO- We're going to have to have some OPs in the channel I guess. The little IRC hackers are already playing their games and kicking and taking over the channel. We need a few regulars with OP status that cannot be booted in there so we can run some flood protection scripts and kick and ban the trouble makers. I'd like to volunteer to be an OP. I can get hold of some decent scripts.

OPs = Moderators
IRC hackers = almost the same as a web site hacker, they take over the chat room and lock it up
OPs that cannot booted = Moderators that have the power to keep hackers out of ban them
Scripts = little "programs" that run in the backround to keep everything working.

Or.......you could just sign in and type. :)

It worked to days ago for me, now when I want to use it, it gives that error message. Plus i downloaded the java and it says it was installed.

Try copying and pasting this into your browser if you aren't using IRC...

http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/chat.php

I did that and it worked. When I clicked the chat button, I got the 404 error too.

I keep getting this error....no matter what browser i use....be it internet explorer or firefox......anyone seen that before?

That shows up at the top of the web page....above all the "register, profile, etc" tabs.....

Your problem is either:

1. You don't have Java Loaded on your system.
2. You aren't waiting long enough for the Java Aplet to load.

When you click the link, maximize you window and wait for everything to load fully. There should be a box that appears below that error message (I get that error on my computer too, just ignore it). Once the box fully loads you are all set!

Installed the new version of java.....keeps saying applet EIRC not inited, and then a few seconds later says loading applet failed....???? oh also got new errors at the top of the page.....

So.. does anyone use the chat anymore?? I just re-downloaded IRC, and Id like to know the name of the IRC server the gaoc channel resides on.

the chat has been updated so I don't think it even uses IRC anymore...maybe I'm wrong...?

It gets real popular for a couple of months and then it breaks and everyone goes away. You probably won't find many people in the chat at this time.

Wow old thread! I never bothered with the chat because there is no way I'd ever install the trash-that-is-Java. It's just a portal/safehaven for spyware and viruses to attack your computer...

The Java client was just for those who don't know how/don't want to bother to install an IRC client.

Hmm, there used to be a thread around somewhere with the IRC server info... for those using mIRC, Trillian, BitchX, etc.

Thanks... didn't remember which section it was in - thought it might have been pruned if in the OT area.

WorldIRC network, #gaoc channel - that's what I needed.
