View Full Version : Two-tone center console?
VanishingImage

Im wanting to do some more interior work since its cheaper then the exterior stuff and on a low budget right now. Since my color scheme is white and blue(for the interior that is,not outside the car) should I paint the entire center console white or do a two-tone white with navy blue paint job on it with navy blue vinyl on the flip up cubby hole thing? Thinking if two-tone do the upper part white and the lower part navy blue with the flip up cubby hole with blue vinyl

i say most deff 2 tone. it showes you put more effort into it and looks nicer. but most deff do the blue at the top. white will get to dirty

should I paint it with the paint gun or spray can? Since I can paint with a gun now(did some parts of the body kit after a lil accident) it might be easier to get a more even coat then a spray can, which one?

the way i see it is, if you want an exact match of the exterior on the interior use the spray gun. but if your just going to paint it white then a can should be ok. but for the blue i guess it dont matter. check out "vinyl color" by "plasti coat" thats the paitn i generally use

two-tone all the way! :D

well I'll be going with the 2-tone and vinyl top to cubby(can wrap it myself, shouldn't be hard to do) I guess I can just use the can since the automotive paint is a bit expensive for what I wanna do and would have extra blue that I cant use for anything else sitting around. Looks like I'll be getting a similar blue carpet to go with the blue on the console, should look good:D

yea,Id appreciate that if you don't mind:) Im always wanting to learn things so I can do them myself, keeps costs down, keeps me from having to depend on outside work and putting my car in the hands of places that Im not real familar with(body shops,etc..) I will take my seats to the local upolstry shop though, seats seem to be a little out of my reach right now, would like a deep blue seat with some white inserts down the middle:D

i would do the oppisite of that. i'd go blue white blue. plus if the blue is ont he top of the arm rest, it wont show as much dirt. not that his is dirty, just blue is eaiser to clean and stuff. you dont have to be"as carful"
The Artist
02-21-2005, 04:11 AM
yeah i hear ya there, but i didnt paint the arm rest, its re-wrapped... so he'd have to find a blue that would match the paint... where as white goes w/ white (unless he didnt care about matching)
VanishingImage

hmmm.......got me thinking again on how I wanna arrange the colors now.....True with the white getting dirty but im a clean freak with my car so Im always cleaning the car out and washing it everyweekend if nots raining the following week. Might have the go blue on top then white on bottom then still a blue carpet(all dark blue) I found some paint from auto stores that is a match to color of the car from Duplicolor. So I should be fine there. Thanx for the pics Wes and Sweet98:) AND 5speed:D
PS,I tried getting the dash trim off once before and it seems almost impossible to get it back on without messing up the paint and tried getting the steering column trim off and that was a no go as well.

I found a good picture that I think is what Im gonna shoot for, this pic is of Neb's GA from AEDCentral.com. Would painting with actual automotive paint look better then spray can and would it stick well? Im thinking if the paint for spray guns is better looking(shiner and smoother) then I'll just go with that since Im able to do it myself.

did a search, couldn't find the instructions, either people figured it out before someone posted them or they PM'd each other....Need to know where all the botls are that hold the center console in. I got the 2 bolts in the cubby with the flip open top, removed the trim around shifter, removed shifter, now this is where Im stuck,I tried moving the thing around but still seems pretty tightly bolted down still?

sorry, came in kinda late on this one. if you are trying to remove the center console, there are two bolts in the cubby hole and then there is one in one of the cup holders. the center circle piece in the cup holder twists out and there is a bolt underneath that. i believe those are the only three there. its been a while since i've taken that out, but i think thats it. let me know if that still doesn't work.

yeah its the 4 he said then pop out. As far as the steering column... the top 1/2 should just pull back slightly and lift off. The bottom you need to remove the tilt steering handle, and there are 2 bolts holding that on (go at it from under neath) if u have any other interior questions, give me a shout as ive had the damn thing down to bare metal (inside) multiple times
hell man i can strip the interior in 10 min :)

so when you paint the interior, do you guys use clear coat after you sand it and put the paint on it? i actually am gonna do two-tone black and gold in my interior as wlel i would just like to know what the process is to do that.
VanishingImage
02-23-2005, 08:19 PM
I always clear anything I paint, gives a better shine then the paint itself and somewhat protects the paint from dirt and stuff. I recomend always clearing after paint,on anything you paint.

Yea,I FINALLY found the 4th bolt,it was under a small little cap piece in the drink holder closetest to the cubby hole thing and had to use a flat head to pop it out. Now my car looks like a dragster, lol, somewhat
