I'm getting a full cat-back custom exhaust put on my 2000 SE (3.4 v6), and they're putting a Magnaflow dual outlet muffler on it with 3" tips. Based on some of the 4 cylinder clips i've heard magnaflow tends to sound pretty ricey..how does it sound on a v6? I also have a ds CAI installed,, will that make any difference in my exhaust note? thanks:)

If you think Magnaflow on a 4 banger sounds ricey then you haven't heard the other ones. The clips are only an idea of what they'll sound like. Personally I like the sound of a Mag over anything else.

Magnaflows are about the deepest sounding muffler you can get on a six. You said cat back....what are they going to use for the resonator? If you don't use something you'll be deaf in a week.

If i had a 3400 I would get a slp. "HondaCivicsSuck" said it best, "The road was open and there where no cars. so he revs his 3500 weeeeeeeeee (G6) my car rahhhhhhhhhhhhhh grrrrrrrr pop pop pop"

Which magnaflow muffler?

The magnaflow muffler I have on my V6 SE sounds great.
The part number is #14266.

I don't think it has a ricy sound to it at all. When you hit the high RPM's, the growl is great.

lironet, do you have a resonator on it? In the back of the April 05 issue of Car Craft, there's a section called "Speed Shop" where they showcase new speed parts.

it says: (... means there's some useless info there I omitted)
"Edelbrock has an all-aluminized steel muffler with patent-pending sound deflection technology to give Chevrolet, Ford... vehicles a healthy growl. The muffler has a baffled design with no filler material to deteriorate and incorporates into Edelbrock's... exhaust systems"

I checked out their website, www.edelbrock.com, and I find it funny how "sport compact" parts are seperate from "automotive" parts... this proves my theory! Ricers are not automobiles, only a self-propelled pop can!

bad news, I could not find info on those mufflers. maybe you'll have better luck.:)

No resonator

I put 2.5 SLP piping from the cat to a magnaflow muffler and 3" dual / dual magnaflow tips.

Here is a pic of the tips

Thats the one i have, i think it sounds quite beefy, has a good low rumble...

I have the same muffler as Lironet...#14266...I only got the muffler put on though, I wanna go put some 2.25 mandrel pipes on and get the resonator chopped.

Tom, do you think I should definitely get a resonator on there? My friend has an American Thunder system on his 3.8 94 mustang and its jus dual pipes, dual cats iwth dual mufflers, no resonators and its not that bad. His is a more aggressive sound whereas mine's more mellow. What do you think?

A six without a resonator is pretty loud inside the cabin IMO. You can try it without and then always add one if you don't like it.

Thanks Tom. I decided I'll do it cuz I always blast my music anyways...plus I sometimes like driving with no music to hear the motor/exhaust/CAI.

Do you think it would hurt the sound and make it raspy tho? Or do u think the better flowing pipes would negate that?

In reality the resonator isn't very restrictive so there's not a huge gain/loss.

I used a 4"round magnaflow for a resonator and it sound good. The resonator is straight through so it flows fine. It just cuts out the rasp and cabin noise.

I got the exhaust installed today, and a new pipe from the O2 sensor to the exhaust piping,, and damn it sounds goood. my friend said it had a lower/deper sound than a gt stang. i definately noticed an increase in performance too, particularly when switching gears..thanks for all your advice guys, i'll try and have some pics up in the next couple days.

I'd like a magnaflow with 2.5" pipes on my ga (2000, v6). How loud is it with no resonator? I like a nice burbly idle, a little rumble at light throttle, and I really don't care how loud it is when I stick my foot into it. Would a resonator be needed for what I'm looking for?

Yeah i'm thinking of getting a magnaflow myself when i get some money... www.exhaustsoundclips.com theres a clip without on the site... sounds badass. But yeah. I donno if I should get an entire exhaust, and looking for dual exhaust. but I'm still looking around :p

I've got a few movies of mine. One at idle and one at the track

Magnaflow resonator, cat and muffler; 2.5" piping. Note headers are involved in my setup, so it might be a tad different. Also, there's a cam somewhere under the hood that isn't stock...

Movies are at the bottom.

Hmm. I dont know if I should have with or without resonator, I'd love to have it sounding like a 69 Camaro, but I dont know if it would sound the same w/ a resonator. Like tom said, I could always add one if I want to. Anyone get a custom exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler w/ dual exhaust? how much it cost to get custom made in canada? any ideas? lol I guess i'll go to wonder muffler or something lol

custom setup for me (cat, res, tips, muffler and piping) was close to 1200 Canadian. I probably paid too much:)

I just have the muffler with tips and stock resonator. Hopefully gettin that puppy off this summer.

Mike, there's no way the GA will sound like a 69 camaro with a Magnaflow exhaust. Supposedly Flowmaster and SLP's exhausts sound best with headers and produce a ballsy sound. Mine isn't really intimidating per say, but it's helped my car breathe and is tame enough for my liking :)

Well, I want to get it as close as poss to a cammy :p Not saying it'll sound like that for sure with all the new stuff on cars giving completely diff sounds and such. But the magnaflow sounded best without a resonator. I'm thinking of just saving for an SLP exhaust.
