1. Can I remove an exhaust off a 99-up GA GT enough so I can take my hacksaw and remove the muffler? I tried the hacksaw from under the car, and it was an awful pain in the arse. I gave up. Removing by removing exhaust mounts, pulling exhaust out the back and swearing at it.
2. How on earth do the exhaust mounts come off? I pulled and pulled and pulled, damn.:( Those things are stuck om there!:roll2:
3. what would a SE 3400 with no res and GT muffler sound like?
Thanks,
matt
p.s. that setup will be temporary, I'll do something more serious when I get a job, and there's a fairly solid 77 LeMans coupe with mint interior from the junkyard I need to save. Excellent for a Michigan car.

Stainless steel is hard to cut with a hack saw , you will probably need a cut off wheel or a power saw with a high speed steel blade .

Stainless?? I don't recall the SE exhaust being such. When I installed my SLP, I cut the exhaust in the front of the rear wheels and in the back, by the muffler, took maybe 5 minutes per cut. As for the exhaust mounts, the best course would be to soak them with WD40 or something similar, then use a pair of long screwdrivers to push the mounts off, it may take a bit of swearing and slipping, but it will work. Are you using a set of ramps while doing the work, if not it is well worth the effort. Lastly, the GT exhaust is about 1/4 inch larger in diameter, so you may need an adapter. An SE 3400 without a resonator will be kind of loud in the interior, but with the GT muffler it shouldn't be too bad. I have the SLP setup with a FLowmaster 80 series and it sounds really nice, mopowr79

It is. Even my low end sunfire has stainless steel exhaust.

1. I have a dremel tool. It cuts stuff pretty good.
2. The car is in a pick-yur-part and is up on homeade jackstands (1960s pontiac Rallye wheel welded onto the side of a plain steel wheel so it forms a upside down T. There are 2 or 3 of these holding the car up. Sadly, there were a lot of sharp musclecar rims sacraficed for that miserable duty.)
3. Could I pull it out the back, I'm more interested in the muffler for the short-term. If I can get the whole piping out, then I'll do the whole GT exhaust; cat-back.
4. even my old car (1993 Saturn, I miss it) had stainless steel exhaust.
5.mopowr79, you mean that you have SLP pipes, and the flowmaster 80 muffler, right? I think so, but I'm just clarifying.

So, could I pirate a 99+ GAGT exhaust system by pulling it out through the back of the car?

ud hafta cut it sumwhere and honestly cutting just the muffler off would be SUCH an easier job then anywhere else.....jus get good sawzall and a GOOD metal blade....trust me it can be done...easily with the right stuff, ive modded the exhausts on 3 of my past GA's...
