Did a search couldn't find anything on my question. Been winter, trucks have been throwing down all their extra salt trying to get rid of it all, and its been making it a pain to keep the car clean, I tried my damndest to clean it during the winter but it must not have been hard enough.

I went to polish up my stock chrometechs and they have some small bumps and black dots all over them. I really didn't want to replace my rims right away cause I kinda like the stockies and have other things to spend my cash on, but I can't seem to get any of this off. Is there any way to polish it out or is this permanent pitting?

Chrometechs? Chrome wheels? Sounds like maybe tar or something on there. You can always use lacquer thinner (I use that to take off tar i find on my paint.) And if that doesnt work, try some really fine steel wool and see if that works to take it off.

No not chrome wheels, they are chrometechs, the stock ones on certain models, the 5 spoke ones that look chrome but aren't.

Winter's been harsh on my chrometechs also. They looked awesome last year but now that the nicer weather is here and i've put more effort into washing my car, they look really bad now. First winter with the car and I knew I should have put on some crappy wheels for the winter. Looks like I'll be doing that next year for sure.

Anyways, I know steel wool is a no-no, but I wonder about those nylon/plastic scrubber things for pots and pans? I'll need to use something abrasive I'm sure... but I don't want to scratch the hell out of them either, no suggestions out there? I always used orange blast to clean them but it just isn't taking this crap off... I think theres some small amounts of rust.

What worked really well for me was I used a Meguiars Gold Class wheel cleaner (red bottle) at the car wash and scrubbed it with my brush. Then used a bottle of Power Clean an aerosol glass/all-purpose cleaner by Coastal from Auto Zone after the wheel was dry to clean up any left over sut/dirt. After everything is dry and cool, I applied a coat of NXT tech wax, and it did wonders on my wheels. Very shiny and brake dust is a breeze to take off now.
