Sure anything is possible, but you might be able to buy a second GA and a used SUV for that cost.

I remember someone posting somewhere that the AWD trans. from the Vibe or Aztek, can't remember which it was, could be bolted up.

NOTHING would just bolt up. Vibe is a toyota...so i doubt itll hook up easily. aztek is more likely considering its the same engine, but still would need lots of work.
if you want AWD then get a WRX.

if you wand AWD and dont want to break the bank buy a used eagle talon
why do you want to make your car AWD? traction is bad weather?
it wont really help it in bad snow storms.. the car still sits too low, just get a nice 4x4 SUV for winters
if you want it for performance traction just go with a LSD on the front wheels

I've considered using a AWD Astro drivetrain under my '83 Z28.
I'm looking for something interesting to do with it since it's just sitting there rotting away.

i think it would be more fun to rip out the drive train of an old trans am an make the grand am a rear wheel machine. If traction in the snow is a problem w/ a grand am, you just cant drive. Now trackion w/ a 5.0 L putting 300 horses to the rear tires could be a concern.
