ive been thinking about installing gauges in 2 or 3 of my ac vents, what size gauge would mount flush in the vent? and if not flush what would be the process in order to make it flush

i measured it once b/c i am going to do the same thing and i think it is 2" gauges. if it is alittle bit bigger you can sand down the outer ring or just take the outer ring off too

2 5/8" are the ones to go with. I Used Autometer but any 2 5/8" should do it.

EDIT; I just noticed you have a '98. I'm unsure about the diameter of anything '98 & down but for '99+ 2 5/8" are what you'd need.

Ive got an autometer A/F guage in one of mine, and it fits just fine. theres actually a bit of room to spare all the way around.

thanks, does it fit alright with the ring inside or did you remove that too, i also notices you said theres a little room to spare, how would i go about mounting it if its shaky?

hey i finally got a photo of one of my vents for ya.. its only a cam pic, but i think youll be able to see what you want... If you've any questions feel free to IM me on AIM or yahoo.. both are in my profile.
It actually mounted rather easy, there was no problem there.. what i did was cut the vent apart and use just the center "slat" as a backing for it. I then epoxied that into the ring and put it all back together.

Guage is an autometer pro-comp digital A/F guage.. unsure of the size.

thanks a lot for the help, might end up being too much, but altogether im goign to have about 7 or 8 gauges in the car, i plan on making it look like a "cockpit" style vehicle, i want to be able to keep track fo everything because hopefully in the near future i want to heavily modify he car and not just the appearance...

How long would you guys guess it would take to install a boost/vac, volts and A/F gauges in the ac vents?

Joey, a couple questions:

1). How long did it take you to complete the vent gauges
2). Do you know if there is a "How to" anywhere?
3). Did you block off the vents with anything to prevent air from blowing on the gauges?
4). Where did you get the little cubby thing at the bottom of your console?

Thanks, I'm dying to do this mod!:)

okeyday, here goes:) ...
1) Since I stumbled through it w/out any help I'd say about 3 to 4 hours tops.

2) I don't know of a how to anywhere but if you get hung up or have any questions, feel free to ask.

3) I had thought of blocking off the vents but due to the nature of the shape of the duct I just went for it w/out blocking them off & have had no problems yet. Autometer guages, which is what I used are sealed so no problems fogging up:) (Or atleast the "Sport Comp." line I used are sealed.)

4) The little cubby is from a 99 GA. It's the cassette pocket. I cut it off of the 99 bezel & cut the corresponding lower part of my 01 bezel & used a 2 part epoxy panel bond to graft them together. it's home to the control face for my "Neo Jukebox" which is a hard drive based mp3 player. (I currently have a 20 gig in it w/ over 2,500 songs in it) You can put as large of a h.d. as you want in it.

The guages are easy, infact, now that I think of it over on that "other" GA site there are wiring instructions. I just popped out my vents & hot glued them in. As a side note, it doesn't effect the air or heat at all. The other vents just blow that much stronger.

Did you just use an existing hole in the firewall or did you drill another? Isn't there supposed to be one in the one of the footwells, I can't remember which side.

Thanks, that's great info.:)

Lol, ya know, I can't remember. I'll get under thew dash tomorow & see. I know I did use an existing hole that had a rubber grommet in it.
