i did it back when i had my 97, put in 55W fogs in teh factory spot and used the factory switch but had another pair for stealth mode... but it is illegal, can only have 4 lights on at a time... got pulled over for it... just a warning, but yeah...

Laws vary from state to state. I had four driving lights and four fogs on my Jeep bumper with no problems in NY.

You can do it, but I think it looks horrible.

If it wasn't legal, the truck would fail the yearly inspection. I've never heard of a law in NY state that forbids accessory lights.

well, they could be on there, just not on all at the same time... i didnt get a ticket sayinjg that these have to come off, just that i had to select which ones i wanted to have on... i guarantee you cant have all 6 on... otherwise everyone would be doing it for greater visibility.... so your sayin that trucks that have KC lights on the roll bar can drive w/ those on? see what i mean, ya can have them, just not on for highway driving... thas pretty much common sense... just like neons, ya pass inspedtion w/ those right? but cant roll w/ blue ones downt the road.... systems are ok, but cant roll w/ it blastin down the road w/ out a noise violation... see what im gettin at?

Magyver is correct. I have inspected many vehicles that have things that are illegal to drive with but not illegal to have on your vehicle. Trucks with 5-7 KC Highlights on a roll bar, and 4 more on a brushgaurd, etc. They allow it because they assume the person will follow the law when driving and use them as directed on the packaging, "For Off Road Use Only".
The only lights the NYS DMV cares about during a vehicle saftey inspection is what it came with from the factory. As long as modifications do not alter or effect the way they operate then your good to go.
