greetings,
i own a 88, grand am se, quad 4, automatic. recently, the car has been having trouble starting. when i start it in the morning it works great. if i go to the store and turn it off, it will not always start again. when i turn the ignition on, the engine just cranks on and on without ever catching or starting. its not the battery, because it will eventually start after sitting for some time. i usually have to sit in the car and wait 20-40 minutes. after or during that time, it will start up with no problem. it really pisses me off when i have to stop somewhere before work, because i have to alot up to 40 minutes for the damn thing to reset. it doesn't always do this, but i can count on it before the 3rd turn off. i don't know if it is the coil pack, because i have had that problem before and doesn't feel like that. this problem has been going on for months. the car runs fine once it is started and it doesn't do any of that stally coil tower damage crap. i notice that when it gets close to sitting for 40 minutes, the crank overs almost start the car. on the other hand, if i try to start it during the first 10 minutes, it just cranks without any signs of catching/starting. it's like the damn car needs to reset for 40 minutes. this has really worked my nerves and temper to the point of beating a perfect dashboard to nothing. someone please help!!!! if this problem persists, i will push the car off a cliff.

forgot to mention in my post, but could this be a fuel pump? since i have to let the car sit for up to 40 minutes, this could be some priming issue perhaps. its like the car has to reset before it wants to start. it seems electrical, but perhaps i have a messed up ignition, fuel, or plug problem. how would the car run good if it were engine related? i am clueless on this.
