Hey guys, I am new to the forums and have been browsing around a little bit.

I have a 1995 GA GT that I am going to put a 3800 into. The GA currently has the quad4(blown) and I have the 3800 donor car(1992 Oldmobile Olds98). What should I expect to change out for this swap? I know I will need the tranny, wiing harness, and computer, but what else should I use or plan on using?

I do plan on doing some motor work to the 3800. I think stock it only has 170hp. Is there a good site around for performance parts for this motor?

Oh, and I know that this is not the greatest 3800 out there, but I got the donor car for free so I will have to work with it.

Any help and info is greatly appreciated!

If your 3800 only has 170 HP your car is going to go a LOT slower with it in. That 3800 can't withstand being blown without some major upgrades(the GTP and GT versions used in the Grand Prix's are different engines), is going to weigh a crapload, most likely not fit terribly well but you can get it in(see the posted link) and the tranny is gonna be a B**tch to fit as well. Plus the car is gonna be a reprogram nightmare.

I would sell the 3800, use the $$ get a 3400 with 175 HP, and work from there. Even the 3400 will be a chore, but 10x easier than the 3800.

Or you could sell the 3800 you have now and get a gen2 from 97-03 that was in a GTP and waste all the 3.4l with your stock 3.8 block, your choice ;). $200 you can put 210hp and like 220ft lbs to the ground (not positive on tq dont have the dyno sheet on me). I work on 3.8/3800 here all the time and help mod my friends regal GS out, they are great strong engines why im putting one in my car when i graduate.

i didnt mean a gen 2 moter for $200 i ment $200 in 2 mods. Look on the net for gen II engines i found like 30 for sale. But if you do do it you will need t he engine With super charger, 4T65-E tranny, Upper and Lower engine mounts, CV shafts, ECM, Wireing harness etc.

you can also find that Gen II in a 97+ oldmobile eighty-eight. i just gained one as a daily driver...has a 3800 Gen II with 200hp. im sure that minor mods will get it up to 220 tho. im not going crazy with it cus its my daily driver now.

Waste of time. 3800... :roll2:

You have a 2.3 Upgrade to Quad 4 HO. Or even a 2.4, don't waste a ton of money on a 3800.

God, if I had a $1 for everyone who said they were going to "swap in a 3800" ...

I'll have some progress pics this weekend for you...and can I have a dollar for everytime someone has said it is a waste of time? :P

Also, there is no "wasting a ton of money." The donor car was free.

Yeah, I still don't think it will all fit. a 4T65-E tranny AND Gen II 3800. Good luck with that. Maybe if you don't have front wheels or a radiator in your car it will fit.

If a 3300 can fit I'm sure a 3800 will.

Any thing can be fit into a car. They put an LS1 in a grand am im sure a 3.8 S/C will fit with less modding. Im looking forward to doing it will be fun and a good pay off when my car is running low 11s with few mods to it.

You'll need custom halfshafts for the swap and they're not cheap ... $

I just got started on this again, been busy on other things and now I am getting ready to perform this swap. I am using a 3800 Series I for the original swap. I am going to get it all in there and fabricate the mounts for the motor and tranny, then I will begin watching for a Series II. For now though, I want to get the swap done. I just got the Grand Am raised and have been disonnecting everything so I can drop the cage.

Here area couple of quick pics of the Grand Am and the motor that will be going in.

I am not in a real big hurry on this project. I want to make sure I get the thing mounted in there securely and am going to be custom fabricating some stuff for this swap. I will keep updating this as I get further into the swap.

/\cool, very cool. I will tell you that a clean engine is a lot easier to work on than a dirty engine.
