Well that wasn't very fun!
As most of you have noticed, the GAOC, and our sister site the G6OC, have been down for most of the week. For those that want to know, here is what happened:
Our site resided on a Linux box, running an Apache webserver. On Tuesday, March 1, the Apache web server, for lack of a better term, blew up. The Linux server itself was still up and running, however, it was just the Apache service that was down. Our web host tried for 24 hours to get Apache to come back online, but with no success. At that point I made a backup copy of both websites and their respective databases.
Our web host went on the hunt for a new server to move our site to. A server was secured, and I began the task of uploading our sites to it. Once uploaded, we needed SHELL access to the server to restore the databases. Unfortunatly for us, the new datacenter refused to give us that access. Because of this, we were at their mercy for the databse restore. The site was ready to go at 2:00 yesterday afternoon (March 3), but wasn't fully restored until after 11:00pm last night. As of this moment, we are still waiting for the G6OC to be restored. We hope that will be completed by lunch time today.
The GAOC was restored with ZERO data loss. No lost threads, no lost posts. I think that's something to be proud of.
Thank you all for your patience through these trying times. And thank you all for your kind words of support. They really mean a lot to us.
