Hey, just wondering if anyone knows the actual module needed to bypass the theftlock in 99+ GA's. The reason im wondering is because my buddy and I are installing a car starter/alarm and from what ive heard, you need a module to bypass the theftlock in the car to be able to use the remote car starter. Anyones help would be appreciated

Ok, now im more confused than ever. Theftlock should only disable my HU if I still had the factory one installed. But I dont. Gahhh, Thats its, this is the last time I ever attempt to take my car anywhere. Ok, well I guess my question should be. Has anyone installed a car alarm/started in a 99 GA and they already have an aftermarket HU? Im wondering how hard this is going to be because all the local shops are quoting me over 400$ for the install.

I know for my 98, I had to get a passlock bypass module from pepboys for like $20. It was a couple wires and a little multimeter work to dial in the resistance and then my remote starter worked great. I dont see how your HU would interfere with what you are trying to do.

are you talking about the passlock for the built in vehicle theft deterrant system or the theftlock built into the radio? As far as the passlock, i know bulldog securities has one for under or around $20.

Pass lock is for your ignition, and TheftLock, is for your audio. GM could have come up with better names, but anyways...
for Pass lock bypass most remote start companies have a line of factory security interfaces, if your in doubt, contact the manufacturer. one great module I've always had good luck was the 555L from DEI. Ruffly about $30.00.
and $400 just for install is absolutely insane. Circuit City only will lcharge you $160 for an alarm and remote install (plus your parts and the actual system), and has a lifetime warranty on the install.......

Hehe too bad up here they dont have no circuit city. Thx for clearing this up it looks like im looking at a passlock module to bypass the passlock and make my remote car starter work. Sorry for confusint he hell out of you guys. Damn, youd think that companies like GM could make their vehicles more accessable to add-ons. Sheesh.

Oh, just another question, in 99 GA's is it the passlock I or II model? I know on 98's its I and 2000 its II but im not sure on 99's.

Alright, so the passlock II, ok, I can pick one of those up at a local shop. Thx guys. I really hate going to stores and asking them on technical matters. The reason? The both told me on a 99 it uses as theftlock I module, not the II. All the more reason, ask questions on here and do the installs by my buddies or myself in terms of electrical components.
