I had to be at my job today around 5pm for when the floor cleaners got there. My girl wanted to come with me so I'm like sure, why not. On the way there were cruising at about 85 mph on the highway. It was me, two trucks (like Ford F150-type trucks), and some other car. Were not racing, just cruising at a decent speed. I'm behind one of the trucks and all of a sudden, this giant bucket raises out of the bed of the truck full of stuff and flies onto the highwy in front of my car. My first instinct is to swerve a hard left. As soon as I do, the back starts fishtailing to the right. I counter steer and it starts fishtailing the opposite direction. This happens about 3 or 4 times before I finally straighten out. Didn't ruin my car, didn't die. Thats a definate plus. My girl has tears in her eyes and i'm just like, whoa. You never really know if you have the "instinct" or not until the time comes. Now that I look back on it, it was pretty sweet. I knew exactly what to do when the car started fishtailing. I didn't hit the brakes once. What an adrenaline rush! whew!

Then, on the way home...I'm cruising at about 85 again. Speed limit is 70. Vrooom, right past a statie sitting on the side of the highway. DAMN IT! I don't hit the brakes, I just slow down to a abbout 75. I jump into the middle lane. As I passed him, he turned on his lights but I thought it was odd b'c my radar detector didn't even go off. I knew me must not of been using the radar. He pulls out anyway when Im a good quarter mile away..at least. My girls like, take the exit, quick. I jump onto the exit and got stuck behind some slow 18-wheeler. Sure enough, the statie rolls right up on me without the lights on. Light turns green and I start going. I pull into the mcdonalds parking lot and he passes. WHEW!

damn, lol, definately a rush! So was the state trooper really after you then?

I had a near crash happen to me awhile ago. I was going down the main road that my street braches of coming home from playing golf with my buddies. Well the road is 40,im going 45,I usually do 5 over the limit, most cops don't bother you. Theres this one house and on one side of it is a tree line that comes all the way up to the edge of the road, prolly about 7ft off the side of the road and the driveway ends at around the same spot. Well Im coming towards this tree line and notice a Caddilacs rear end coming out past the tree line and Im about 70 ft back and my friend in his car in front of me. The Caddy sees my friend and stops pulling out, well they start backing out more as Im coming by and I literally had to swerve into the on comming traffic lane to miss them by inches! I could hear my tires squeal and I slow down and turn on to my road and stop by the side waiting to see if they would stop and say sorry or ask if I was alright,NOPE! That was my adrenaline rush for the year.

Hehe guys I had an incident like that where I nearly t-boned a civic si at 80 km/hr. He would have been dead for sure if I hadnt swerved into the other lane. Its funny, people may bash the handling of the GA sometimes, but it gets me home safe and definatly responds well to my reactions in emergency situations. Good driving + Grand Am = A safe drive home ;). I know I'll put my trust in this car.

Well, I have to agree with that one. I had a civic incident myself only a couple months after getting the GA. Unfortunately I was stopped behind a lexus and the civic came cruising along about about 35 mph and smacks me full force, shoving me right into the lexus. His airbags went off, windshield busted and all..my GA kept me safe too..although it looked pretty bad with the trunk held down with a bungee cord and the front all mashed. The guy at the autobody shop had a little "thing" for me apparently, and got my rental switched from a malibu to a sedan version of my GA. If I couldn't be in mine, it was good to be the next best thing!

I definately owe it to the car for handling so well, too. That thing handled like a champ, screechin' tires n all. I would have loved to of seen an from an outsiders point of view. It must looked damn sweet to see a hooked up car start fishtailing then gain control. Wish I had it on tape. :(
