I was driving through eastern Wisconsin today on my way back from Indiana. Someone had bought a new G6, slapped a new exhaust, and a turbo under the hood, and re-badged it as a "Grand Am GT6 Turbo."
I figured anyone who is that bent on turning their G6 back into a Grand Am would maybe hang out on these boards?

well, I should say I am ASSUMING that he had turbo in it since he re-badged it that way, or turbo will be coming as soon as he gets his hands on it.
Like I said I just saw him in traffic coming north on I-90 out of Illinois. It was cold and I didn't specifically hear his turbo decompressing or anything.

I don't know why he would lie about this when hes looking for someone that supposely has this G6,its not like hes got the G6 with a turbo and labeled it a Grand Am,can't say its bs when he isn't even the owner of the G6 he saw, unless the person with G6 had those "whistlers" that make the sound of a turbo that you put in your exhaust tip, then thats bs;)

Well like someone said, he might have been totally full of shit about having the turbo in it. However, I personally would never badge my car as having turbo when it didn't. It seems like you would get yourself into some stoplight situations where your car didn't have the ability to back up what you claimed.
Turbo or not(probably not it seems)some people think this guy is pretty stupid for doing this, and I would have to agree. I think it is sort of insulting to the Grand Am to re-badge a G6 as one, but I didn't want to say so until I knew if the guy was on the site or not. After all, a G6 is sort of an ugly duckling euro cousin of the Grand Am.
Re-badging seems to be like its own little trend lately. I saw a guy in town who must have ordered or ripped the badges off a cadillac SUV or that open bed thing they make and re-badged his full size black Chevy pickup as a caddy.

FYI, since it's conception for the 1973 model year the Grand Am was and always has been styled based on current 'European' trends and targeted towards those buyers.
To be honest I don't see much wrong with labeling it a 'GrandAm'. We all know that the G6 is repalcing the Grand Am in Pontiac's lineup. Plus as we sit now the '99-'05 Grand Ams are the 5th generathion, had Pontiac called this new family sedan a Grand Am it would have been the 6th generation. Can't say for sure but it's a good guess as to where their 'European' inspired name came from. Back in 1985 beloved first and second generation Grand Am owners were pissed when Pontiac released a GA with FWD and no V8, talk about insulting. Now if it says turbo and it's not thats another story.

Lol, that is true. However, I still don't like the way the G6 looks.

speaking of seeing new G6's, is it just me or are they always zooming down the expressway.... aren't you supposed to keep a new car under a certain MPH for a while?
