painting the drums looks dumb IMO -- but AAP autozone and walmart all have a high heat paint designed for brake calipers (probably works well for drums as well) I dont remember what its called -- but someone else may be able to help you more...

it should say caliper paint right on it, so just go to the spray paint section and take a look.

You asked for the best thing to paint with.
The best thing is the two part epoxy based kit that sells for $40. If it chips, you get a new kit for as long as you own the car. It looks like powder coating when it cures.

The bad part is that it takes a lot longer to do and you're not supposed to drive the car for 24 hours. I was completely anal and filed, sanded and wire brushed the calipers to remove any molding flash and dirt. I also got extra brushes and disposable eye droppers to make smaller batches of the epoxy. There is enough paint to do eight calipers.

I simply wire brushed the drums and used Krylon black paint on them since I didn't what/need to show off my drums.

After two NY winter the calipers look the same as the day I painted them. The drums needed a touch up last summer and I expect to do it again when I put the summer tires back on.

whatever u use...eventually it will fade....i say you use engine enamel high temp paint...if your going to paint your drums...i say you only paint them black...other wise it will look too flashy

The stuff I used is VHF high temp brake caliper paint. So far, its only faded a bit, however, the higher the temp your brakes get, the more they fade. My buddy has a '04 WRX and his fadded very fast, on a GA, mine has lasted over a year and a half.

i think its duplicolor engine paint....i left my drums alone, and painted my calipers red. i redo them about once a year. use a can of brake cleaner to get the dust off, and scrub with wire brush. you can also use high heat clear coat to give it a nice finish. it also makes it look cleaner longer.

I have rear drums..i hate them. My roomate did me a favor and painted the calipers for me...but he painted the drums too. so they are now blue. Looks kind of dumb. Whats it cost for a rear disc conversion

I'm most likely going to be painting both my calipers and drums soon as well. And yeah, i'm definitely painting my drums red as well. Like NeoBlue said, it looks better then stock.

@greenguy - i've seen them go for about $1000
