Well everyone,

I managed to get my 6x9's and sub installed and they don't sound as good as I'd like, so I've decided to embark on replacing the deck.

My question is, I've read conflicting things as to whether or not I can use the Metra Chime Module on the '02 with Monsoon or if I need to relocate the deck. Can someone clarify?? Also, on either of these I would still run my speaker wire from the new radio, right??

Thanks all for your help!!!

Are you going to amp your new 6x9's or your sub??? If not, don't even bother getting a new HU. It's not going to help unless you plan on amping your stuff later on...

You can do either. Relocate the deck using Metra's relocation harness and optional chime module, or go the easier (and IMO better) route of the Metra GMRC01 data retention harness. I've done both, and I love the GMRC01 harness. So much easier, and you keep the function of the stereo staying on until you open the door. :)

With regards to the Data Retention Harness with the chime module. Are these set up to be plug and play and then run over your factory speakers?? or do I wire my speakers from my radio harness as per normal? Because i'll be replacing all of my speakers as well.

Also, I've heard that the factory stereos get signal to 'turn on' frm the computer. Does this module accomplish that??

Does anyone know where I can find this module?? Most places like Crutchfield that sell it won't ship to Canada.

Thanks all for your help!! :) :D

Yes, the GMRC01 interperets the signal to turn on/off from the BCM. The relocation harness requires you to use a fuse tap to locate a 12V+ switched source on the driver's side fuse panel.

You can pick up the GMRC01 from any local shop that carries Metra accessories. I got mine from Video Pros.

As far as wiring, it's just like any other harness. You tie in your stereo's wiring harness into the Metra harness. Metra labels each wire as to what it is, so it eliminates the guesswork. And yes, you can run the factory speakers off the harness as well. If you're replacing your speakers, I'd suggest running your own wires to them, and forgetting about the speaker connections on the Metra wiring harness. That way you don't need to mess with the factory wiring connectors and go back to stock with minimal effort. That's what I did, anyway.
