There was a thread on this a while back but it seemed like people had conflicting answers. Does anybody know for sure now that you can plug a GT gauge cluster in to an SE and have no problems? I know the speedos are different but people were saying they dont need to be recailbrated. For a 2000 SE by the way.

The speedo is 100% compatable. No need for calibration. However, your mileage is stored in both the PCM and the cluster. Your odometer will display the amount of miles that were on the donor car, which will conflict with how many miles are stored in the PCM and are actually on the car. A dealership can certify the actual mileage of the car and will affix a sticker explaining that the cluster was swapped out.

... I haven't done it but I think that I have read a couple times that it will work but it ended up being as described by Shawn (sunrunner_pei) :)

I've never done this (Canadian GT speedos are the same as SE), so I can't say from personal experience. I'm just going off anecdotal evedence from the forums.

if u swapped the old odometer card in to ur new cluster, will it show your old # of miles? In other words are the miles stored inside the cluster on that card that is attached to the odometer display? i had mine apart and it looks like that card slides in much like a PCI slot inside ur computer.

... interesting, I don't believe that I have heard anyone considering what you're saying?

I heard of lot of people who did this on grandamgt.com. They said it's plug and play. The speed-o and tach will work the same. Magyver maybe you got one out of a 2001+ grand am. The 99-00 and 2001+ look different. The 99-00 have a ring around them and the 2001+ don't

also the 99-00 cluster does not sweep smooth like my 2001

oh the card will transfer.. done that many times, had a hard time finding the oroginal since i got 4 laying around all w/ very close milages on them... they will work in SE or GT... no prob there... just dont get stupid w/ them......

... so what you're telling me is that by changing the 'card', you get to keep the same milage showing?

swapped in a new cluster, finally have gauges again thank god. swapped the odometer cards but still reads the new clusters mileage (about 9K less than what i really have). Also i read on another thread that when u swap clusters ur car will stall and you have to leave the car on for 20-30 mins to realarm the theft deterrent system. however my car never stalled so i didnt have to do it. not sure why that happened? i swapped 2000 se cluster for 2000 se cluster, so maybe thats why u dont have to realarm the TDS. as long as i have working gauges i dont really care i guess. thanks for all the help and info guys.
