View Full Version : Icy crap in wheel wells

Today I was driving down the highway and I noticed my car was acting a little strange, so I pulled over and found a large amount of icy crap built up in my wheel wells. It was so built up that it was touching my rear wheels. I couldn't get it out until it warmed up a little. Does anyone know of anything I can do to prevent or at least cut it down? Maybe mud flaps? Thanks

There's nothing you can do except to stop driving in the snow. If you park in a heated garage, it will fall off after a while.

Thanks, the what is the point of having mud flaps? Just keep stuff off other cars?

if you park it outside at night, check it in the morning and kick the ice / snow stuff off with your feet.

I love the fact that our rear bumper does not have a wall. So everything that is kicked up by rear tires go straight to the back of the bumper.

i hate not having anything in the back.... thought about the mud flaps but dont think they would be to my liking :( as far as the icy stuff... as jordansgrandam said.. kick it before you leave.... couple small taps with the foot will knock most of it off.

I don't want mudflaps. They won't help back there. Plus they will scrape expecially if your car is lowered.

Yeah I had a few issues with that last winter, it's terrible. Just be mindful of it :)

A couple of years ago someone bought the rear wheel well liners of a alero (or maybe it was a malibu) and was successful installing it on his Grand Am without much modifications.

That's something you might want to look into.

The 2003+ GA GT has rear inner fenders as well. They're not full-coverage, but they're better than nothing.

I don't have to worry about ice just mud, which the back bumper holds alot of.

Could you post pics of the inner fender for 03 GA GT? Thanks.

I wish it were that easy. I kicked it and poked it, but it wouldn't budge. In fact I cracked my bumper. So i got pissed and went to the car wash. The car wash loosened it up but i still had to pry it out, when I did the ice chunck was the biggest I have ever seen. The ice is gone now but its snowing again so, I guess I will just have to do it all over again.

Figure out where the ice builds up the most and buy a cheap can of Vegetable cooking spray. repeated aplications in winter months has kept my GA pretty much ice free.

Haha thanks for the advice but, what you are suggesting would use a ton of vegtable oil.
