View Full Version : I destroyed my powerslots.

I took off my powerslots today and put on some stock rotors I'd had turned and put away on a shelf somewhere. I'd been feeling a lot of vibrations and assumed the rotors were warped. Wow! I took off those rotors and they were destroyed. I had to kind of laugh though. The slots were filling in with all sorts of debris, including chunks of the rotor that seemed to have gotten hot enough to bond into the slots. I actually had to chip away and slice out pieces of the rotor. It really amazed me to see that. I'm really wondering if the rotors can be salvaged now. Has anyone else noticed anything like this on slotted rotors? Just curious.

What kind of brake pads are you using? I know the rotors are coated so maybe it's the coating being rubbed off? Just pulling an idea out of the air.

I ran Performance Frictions for most of the time, but then switched to Bendix Ceramics a few months ago.

Hehehe your lucky man, my powerslots came warped to shit straight out of the box. The funny thing was, they have never heard of them coming warped liek they were for mine.

I usualy get new rotors turned before I put them on because they warp before they get to you. You get more life out of them believe it or not.

You can't generally turn slotted rotors.

Interesting, I have never had rotor problems still have the original rotors with 71000KMs on them.

My Brembo Crossdrilled and slotted rotors were horrible when I took them off. My Powerslots with EBC greenstuff pads are awesome so far. If you do a lot of hard braking without letting the rotors cool in between the stops, that's what will warp em the worst. I did multiple 100+ mph stops and that's what did the Brembos in I'm sure.

Slotted/drilled rotors can be turned, but you need to make sure that you are not taking a huge bite all at once. The tech from Powerslot told me that they should be turned in .005" increments until clean across the entire surface.

dont powerslots reccomend non ceramic pads? i thought i remembered reading that when i got mine.
often times pads that are meant for extremely hard use can actually cut the life of your rotors in half

So after 18000 kms, my Powerslot rotors are warped. Is that rediculous?? My OEM rotors lasted longer than that! I installed Raybestos ceramic pads with the new rotors. I'm a conservative driver who doesn't ride on my brakes, I use a torque wrench when I change my wheels, so what's up with my brakes?!?! I called Powerslot and they refused to warranty warpage and none of the brake shops near me are willing to machine slotted rotors ..... Shitty Powerslots.

That was the highest amount our warning system would allow. He deserved much more. :pissed:

I'm having a feeling it was your pads that ended their life early.

ceramic pads and slotted/cross drilled are a bad combo.

I agree. I had great results with Powerslots & Performance Friction carbon metallic pads, and with my RSM slots & EBC Greenstuff pads.

I just use cheapy semi metalics with my R1's, so far so good.

Wow, I had to replace the OEM rotors and pads at 30000 mi. Again at 60000. I was pissed off. Got my Power Slots in the group purchase here. New ceramics and am still going strong at 123000.
Sorry you guys had some problems but this is the best set up I have had and will go the same parts again. BTW, my pads have a lifetime warrenty, that's good because I paid a bunch for them. 80 bucks for the pair.

Wow ... threw a few pennies at this thread over two years ago. So, I'll throw a few more in.
I have a slide issue on the passenger side. If I keep it clean and lubed, there are troubles. I had been running the Powerslots and Raybestos QS pads. Braking started to suck in general a year ago, requiring a good stomp to build heat. I thought I would give Hawk pads a shot, thing the rotors were still fine. No pulsation, pulling, etc. Got the pads, went to do the job, and found the passenger rotor's back surface just destroyed. Being Sunday, I had to do something, so I hit up the Autozone for some stockers. The stock rotors and Hawks work 100x's better than the Slots/QS combo.
Getting about time to check it out again. Thinking of doing the F-body swap, but not sure I want to put the money in as I am looking to do somethign new.
