A really loud ehaust noise has started happening and i traced it to the Cat Converter.
I can't put my car onto ramps to look directly up at it because of the soft ground. But with the engine running there is a definate leak from the very bottom. I can reach over to it while laying on the ground and the heat shield has a machined hole i can put my finger through and feel the exhaust coming through.
My question is, Did a plug or bolt fall out of the converter body?

Its prolly the 02 sensor that fell out, do u have a CEL? Check for any loose wires near the cat? Anyway, yeah check that out.
Peace,
Andrew

most pre cat o2 sensors are after the cat, not in it, although ive heard some are. is there rust around the hole or is it jagged, i would think it might have just rusted out.

Given the age and the location of the car, I would bet rust out. Even if not, good chance the interior honeycomb is beginning to get clogged. Probably a good time to replace it anyway.

The '93 does not have a second O2 sensor, so it can't be that. I would also vote for a rotted out converter. The car is 12 years old, and exhaust systems don't last forever...unfortunately.

Yup I agree completely. My 95 developed a small leak near the cat in spring of 2003... I would imagine yours has deteriorated over the years too.

Yep my O2 sensor is under the hood before the converter. but this cat converter maybe had a plug to install one and it popped out. I'm digging into it tomorrow. suposed to be in the low 30's!!
I'll post my findings.
