I just put a new tranny in my 99 GASE....now for no apparent reason, the gas guage goes to "E", or the BRAKE light comes on, the ABS light...maybe the SECURITY light..also the car just sputters and dies and is a pain to start again. If i keep the RPMs up a bit it doesnt die AS MUCH, but it still does. what could it be?? should i buy a code reader and see if anything comes up?

It sounds like a electrical issue to me, maybe when the tranny was put in something wasnt plugged back in or the battery\altenator is going bad.

^^^^ Bingo, we have a winna!!

GA's are REALLY susceptible to goofy lights when the battery is low on power, or one of the battery cables is dirty/corroded/loose, thereby preventing power from getting to stuff.

Including the tranny, which needs about 20 amps to operate the shift solenoid (s) for 1 st and (I *think) third gears.

So, get the battery/cables/alternator checked and serviced/replaced.

Good luck.

PS: While the car was out-of-commission for the tranny replacement, the battery may have 'died' for lack of use/recharging, especially if they didn't disconnect it and the courtesy lights remained 'on', or some such.

I'm willing to bet its a ground issue. There are 2 clusters of ground wires on the transaxle bellhousing. If they are not tight lots of wierd sh*t can go on.

I agree with HayDace.

Sounds like a bad ground. So sometimes they work and other times the don't have any juice running to them so they don't work.

A sure sign of a dieing ALt- on a GA, dash lights comming on and going off at radom. So your alt is dieing or bad ground. Both give the same signs.

Also lots of car parts stores will read the codes for free. Just call around.

The dealership said that there were like 33 codes in the computer. They cleared all of them and said that the Ignition switch was bad. Apparently it sends power, or in my case sometimes, to all the modules that were comming up with codes. Im thinking that i will replace that and see how it goes
