is it pretty tough? i can paint pretty good w/ a real gun, and spraypainting.......... i want to do it, but i dont want to **** up, because its my taillights haha. is the spray much different then a regular can of spray paint? and how much prep work did you do...any sanding? and did you clear coat it...and does it seem to be pretty durable?

If you're worried I would buy one regular tail off of ebay and try it. If it works out well buy another for the other side.

You can do it two ways...

1st Easiest Way-
Go purchase VHT's NiteShades. Remove and clean your tail light lense with a mild dish soap and water. Let it dry and then spray a few good even coats using a 50/50 overlap letting each coat completely dry before the next. The more coats the darker it will get. Then once your finished spray a few coats of some high tempature clearcoat in the same manner as the tint.

2nd Way-
You can pruchase some black paint and clearcoat in a mixing cup (the more black obviously the darker it will be). Mix in your reducer and hardener and spray them as you would any other body panel.

I have used the VHT Niteshades on my borthers Jetta's tail lights and side markers along with the tail light of my motorcycle and they all came out looking great. Even laying it on dark still allows a good amount of light to pass though.

my buddy on his expedition just marked off the back up light and used black spray paint and then clear coated it, looks awesome.

if im spraying it over the reverse lights...and i want to do it pretty dark.....will i lose alot of light at night when im backing up? i might mask off the area around teh reverse lights to let some more light out

If your doing it dark expect to loose some light transfer.

I do not recomend the straight spray paint. I sprayed my third brake light on my truck white and clear coated it and even with the lite color not much light transfers though it.

I wouldn't recommend using straight paint eithre. There is a transparent black tint that I can mix w/ clearcoat that will work though. But keep in mind you have to send the tails pretty good to gat any regular automotive paint to stick.

I spray tinted my tails... was pretty easy just took awhile for them to dry... they are a B!tch to see during the day and I dunno how many people I've p!ssed off because of them.. but they turned out really nice.

sweet. im only going to be doing the top half of mine, which is amber and clear for the turn signals and reverse, so if theyre pretty dark during the day, it wont be too bad since my stoplights will still be stock w/ no tint over them.

im only debating this because i cant lose the light that the reverse lights put out at night...once i have my windows tinted again to 5 or 15, iill need it.

but i talked to a few people who tinted over their reverse...they said it barely made a difference in light emision
