Hi all.
I have a04 GA se. We have aproblem with squealing brakes, maybe some one on here can help.
once the brakes get warmed up (ie construstion traffic on my way to work) they really squeal when you step on them slowly.
I'm not tlaking little squeal, I'm talking metal on metal type squeal. I'v ehad the car to Gm 3 times, they keep telling me everything looks fine, the last time a tech told me my squeal is not normal, but pontiac won't let tham do anything about it. Has anyone had near the same thing and what was the final outcome.
I would really hate to have to put out a couple hundres $ for a complete brake job for a 1 year old car that is still under factory warranty!
Help!!!!
Thanks in advance.;)

Why won't they let them do anything about it?

THey dont work on brakes as they are a Wear item. Just as an oil change isn't covered on warranty.

... interesting ... they WON'T let them do anything it?!? ... HAHAHA ... screw them, tell them that you WON'T pay the car payment until they do :rofl2:
My mom bought her 98 GA when it was brand new. She needed new brakes within 20,000 miles. The car was still under warranty. Long story short...a few hours of my dad fighting with GM ...the brakes were replaced under warranty for free.

Quick, cheap, won't void warranty:
Remove existing pads. If they look OK, apply a some 'Disk Brake Quiet' paste to the back (metal) surface of each pad, and put everything back together.
If they don't look ok, replace the pads and use the paste.
Good luck.

PS:
Depending on how you drive, 1 yr/12 mos isn't out-of-the-realm for the pads to be worn.
I don't know if the '04 GA's pads have a little metal tab that vibrates (squeals) to indicate 'time to change' (prolly not, or the tech would have told you so).
They really shouldn't squeal *objectionably* if the pads aren't worn.
Personally, I would check for wear, then raise holy hell with the GM district manager (not the dealership) that the brakes are mechanically faulty AS A WARRANTY ITEM, not as a wear item.

I was told by my dealership that gm does not do warnty on brakes after 30,000klms, My car was at 40,000klms, and my brakes were pulsating bad. I told them that it was a problem with the car, not my fault and the needed to change my brakes. And so they did. You need to come at them with a no backdown attitude, its a new car they need to stand behind there product, if it requires asking them if they think there product sucks, and they wont say it does, do it, cause then you say well if my brakes dont work at 22,000 then this is a piece of crap. How can they argue?
I also had a battery terminal sheer off, I dont know how my car wouldnt start one day, checked the terminals and the positive was busted. Took it into the dealer, they told me it wasnt covered under warenty. They told me it had been over-tightend, I told them they were the only ones to work on it, and with a bunch of ho hums, they finaly agread to cover it internaly. You just need to be strieght with them, and dont move an inch.

well I contacted pontiac directly with a not so nice but to the point email, they contacted me the next day(and caught the dealership in a lie), needless to say that my brakes are fixed. I am supposed to contact the rep at pontiac in a week and let him know if there are anymore problems with the brakes!

This is covered under warranty. GM has had a lot of problems with the + terminal on Delco batterys corroding. Also it causes the alternator to fail. It happened to my Suburban at 40K and they covered it, new battery and alternator.
