So I have 2 10 inch JL audio w7's .. they use to be in a messed up vented box which was way to small for them in my Lincoln mark VIII running them with a crossfire 1000d.. well that amp got messed up so I got a brand new crossfire 1000d sittin in the box.. I need to know what the perfect amp for these subs would be.. I custom made 2 seperate sealed boxes to spec for my subs and am fiberglassing them in a mold in my trunk to look like a one big box.. I think the 1000d is way underpowering them.. and would anyone be interested in buying the amp?? like i said brand new in box!!

Thats correct in your assumption that you will be underpowering them. Though im not sure on the eact output of the crossfire 1000d, im guessing around 900-1000w RMS if its a good amp. Now those sub can handle about 1000W RMS apiece if you were to push them. The recommended ratin is around 750W each I think. In all reality though, running 1000W rms to them both isnt bad, you just wont get the full output out of them. I myself am only running about 500W rms to each sub and the recommended rating for them is 300 each. Like I said, you wont blow your subs, you just wont be able to use their full potential.

why is it severely underpowering them? wire it down to 1 ohm and it should be putting out 1100-1200 watts at around 14volts. lets say the rms for each sub is 750. 750+750=1500. 1500-1150 (rough guess of what the amp is capable of)=350. 350/2=175. you're only missing each speakers rms rating by 175 watts.
if the subs were rated at 300 and you were missing it by 175........you might have a problem. but when you're talking 750 watts and you're giving the sub 575 watts. i think you'll be ok and will get some good sound.
now if you were in the market to BUY a new amp.....i'd say go ahead and get a hoss mama pushing 2000 watts rms. but since you've got an amp that is perfectly capable of pushing the subs just laying there in the box......why not use it? that's a good amp. that's what i've got pushing emily's 18" in her car. but the key to the amp is you've got to wire it down to 1 ohm to get those numbers out of it. at 1 ohm you're getting above 1000, at 2 you're getting a little above 500, and at 4 you're getting about 250.

i recomend the JL 1000/1 for the two. it will be underpowering them, as earlier stated...but with such a clean amp, and the regulated power supply, youre in better shape. im not a huge crossfire fan tho. if youve got teh $ then get a pair of 1000/1 amps....and youll really rock.

I'd buy the crossfire 1000D off you if you go with a different amp :)

i wasn't too sure of crossfire till i got a great deal on the current amp, tried it and for the money i couldn't be more satisfied with it. i just figured why spend extra money when you dont have to. :)

I had no idea on the specs of the amp there matt. I had no idea it was a 1 ohm stable amp. Guess thats my bad. I also assumed that he amp was pushing 1000W and if each sub was recommended at 750W, thats 250W apiece that is missing, which is a 1/3 of its power. Now that would mean a big drop in power. Thats my .02.

Heheh oh sure they can, but then what life would a person have? Hehehe my g/f already says I spend too much time reading and posting on this site. I guess being in the top 15 for the past 8 months was the point she was bringing across ;)

i like my crossfire 1000d, i have it pushing two rf power T1 12's and it smoked a pair of W7 12'a and the 1000/1, i highly suggest you go with two 1000/1 or a crossfire 2000d

The perfect amp for a W7?...A JL 500/1 of course. Those 2 together are monsters; i've heard them first hand and i've never heard anything louder (from a single 13" woofer) or cleaner.

you didn't read anything we said did you?
w7's rms at 1000w, therefore a 500/1 will underpower them
w7 8" needs a 250/1, 10" 500/1, 12" and 13.5" need 1000/1
My bad, that was a 10W7 I was referring to, not a 13W7. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

so then why were you comparing it to 13" subs??? im just messin wit ya.
the original post was about 2 subwoofers, so we have been replying with solutions for the pair. a 500/1 for each is a good solution, but a 1000/1 would probably be easier to negotiate on.
