Has anyone actually checked a 2005 GA to see if it does? It' snot uncommon for a press photo to differ from what is actually installed.

BTW, I think it was a moronic idea for GM to remove the dipstick in the first place.

Isn't that what GM is best at doing? m=Making some moronic decisions?

That pic is from the 2005 Pontiac Grand Am website , it shows a tranny dip stick . Whether or not the 2005 actually has one i'm not sure ? I know all the 99+ i've seen don't have one . http://www.google.ca/url?sa=U&start=2&q=http://www.pontiac.com/grandam/index.jsp%3Fbrand%3Dhome%26pagename%3Dhome&e=42 Engine pic is in the photo gallery ( maybe they use the same one for every 3400 vehicle )

Correct, the 4T45E in the GA has no dipstick. It is said that is to keep stupid people from pouring other crap in it like washer fluid and oil.

You deserve to have your tranny destroyed if you are ignorant enough to pour something down a dipstick area that is CLEARLY labeled TRANS, or atleast, mine is labelled as such...

I agree, but old people, most women, and other not enthusiasts really do not know what they are doing under the hood.

I think all cars should do what Caddillac does by color coding everything and having a legend under the hood showing what each color is for.

heh.... so how do you check the level... or add fluid....

I never really thought about it, I thought all GM was like that, but yes, everything on my '93 DeVille is colors witht he little legend thing.....

or on my Olds, the engine oil dip stick says "ENGINE OIL" in big letters.... and the trans dipstick says "TRANS. FLUID" so it is hard to get them confused......

They should have did something like what they did on the Olds though.... it would be really hard (or a really stupid person) to mistake it for that.... the washer fluid is in the really big jug on the left.... engine coolant is right next to it... engine oil is in the very front as soon as you open the hood... and it says engine oil in big letters.... then way out in the back is the trans fluid dip stick (clearly labled) minding its own business....

geezee.... if these are the problems now, i would have hate to seen the '70s.... my '79 DeVille, the engine oil and trans fluid dip sticks both look the same, and are not labeled...... people are stupid....

You don't. Actually there is a little access plug down on the transaxle to check and fill. But they say the synthetic fluid used is good for 100,000 miles. Sure it maybe good but it's not ideal.

eh, I can still picture lots of stupid people getting confused with the color thing....

yellow is enigne oil, green is coolant, blue is washer fluid, red is trans fluid, white is brake fluid, orange is power steering fluid....

sheesh..... on a rear differental or something of that nature, the little fill/check level plug is fine.... but on the trans?

I highly doubt when someone takes their car to a shop for an oil change, they even bother to remove that little plug and check the fluid.....

From my 2001 book, it's the same in my mom's 97 malibu book that does not have a dipstick also. Weird because the the 97 grand am did.

Automatic Transaxle Fluid
It is not necessary to check the transaxle fluid level. A
transaxle fluid leak is the only reason for fluid loss. If a
leak occurs, take the vehicle to the dealership service
department and have it repaired as soon as possible. You
may also have your fluid level checked by your dealer
or service center when you have your oil changed.
Change both the fluid and filter every 50,000 miles
(83 000 km) if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or
more of these conditions:
In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature
regularly reaches 90F (32C) or higher.
 In hilly or mountainous terrain.
 When doing frequent trailer towing.
Uses such as found in taxi, police or delivery service.
If you do not use your vehicle under any of these
conditions, the fluid and filter do not require changing.

You can add a lot of full throttle starts to that list.
