Apart from the aesthetics, is there another reason to install larger rims on a car? I mean, those it increase performance or handling? or is it just to look cool?

Larger wheel = lower tire profile = less sidewall flex = better handling.

^Yea, I'm assuming they be sized correctly for the vehicle. I keep forgetting the rediculous and pointless sizes people use now. :nono:
Also if you go way bigger than stock, then it is recommended that you increase the size of your brakes, as the added mass noted by Colin is hard on the stockers.
